jumped for a steal...went up pretty high...undercut, came down on the arm. Broken just below the wrist. Though I was playing with it 3 days later (left-handed shooting only, and mostly lefty dribbling)...for the next 2 weeks until I realized it wasn't just a sprain.

honorable mention to puking on the court...then coming back to play. then puking again. then figuring out i couldn't play anymore. that just felt horrible.

oh, deep scratch of the cornea as i went for a steal and a guy's hand just felt like it went into the back of my brain. Never thought you could poke an eye like that (in the corner, so i guess that's how it went deep). Felt worse than an eye infection.. and I maintain that it was the cause of one eye having worse vision than the other now.

A few years back, I remember kicking the hell out of the locker in the lockerroom after losing a game we shouldn't have lost.

Probably ended up with a tiny fracture that I never went to the doctor for and after about a week, I was walking without a limp anymore.

I know they're not really that serious, but two injuries that hurt like a motherf*cker...

Jammed finger - Your finger is swollen down at the bottom, and you can't even move it from side to side, let alone bend it...

Knee/Elbow to the thigh - Oh my freaking gawd, every step is like an ice pick being jammed into your leg...

I was playing on one of those portable goals back when I was 16 - the kind you can fill with water or sand at the bottom and then tilt it to roll it wherever.

Me and some stupid ******* got into a 1-on-1-within-a-2-on-2. I blocked him on a dunk and he came right back to try again and I got him again. But this time I only got it with my fingertip, which got bent back over the rim. It was my off hand, though, so I kept playing. Even though this was 10 years ago, that finger is still grossly malformed.

Then, he finally got a dunk over me and hung on the rim, bringing himself and the whole goal down on top of me. I fell down when he hit me, and the thumb on my bad left hand got smashed by the rim. It cut a solid 1/8 of an inch off the tip, leaving me bleeding slightly and in tons of pain. But I kept playing.

On Game Point, I of course went right at him for the dunk and of course he threw everything he had into me, but I got the dunk in. Only problem was my wrist got tangled in the net in the process. The goal came down once again, this time right on the back of my head. One of the little curly things that hold the net to the rim ripped a 6 inch gash down the back of my head that was about an inch wide - of course you could see bone.

I got up, tied my shirt to my head, let out a big "YYEEEAAAHH MUTHAFUUCCKKAAAA!" and promptly rushed to the ER to get 13 staples in my scalp and my broken middle finger reset and splinted.

Tried a crossover and sprained my knee. I'm sure i tore something because I couldn't walk for a week. Knee kept popping out after that. After a few years it's strengthened up pretty well and on very rare occassions it'll pop out but it doesn't hurt at all now. Soreness in the cold though.

got reverse headbutted while guarding my cousin in the post. Back of his head hit me square in the nose. I swear I broke it because there was blood everywhere and i heard a pop but alas nothing broken. maybe some damaged cartilage. There is a small small bump on the nose now though.

The term digging is generally associated with volleyball. I was also confused when I read your post. I was thinking, what kind of crazy-ass volleyball coach would teach the team to dig with the palm facing up? :p

My worst sports injury was a subluxated shoulder that I suffered while playing softball. I had never played softball before and I guess I was holding on too tightly with my left hand (I bat right-handed). When I made contact I could feel the shoulder pop partially out of the socket and then go back in. It hurt like hell, but I just sucked it up and ran in to second base for a double. I didn't tell anyone about the injury at the time, and stayed in the game. A few innings later during my next at-bat, the same thing happened; it popped out and immediately back into place when I made contact.

Anyway, I went home and took a nap. When I woke up it was excruciating and I literally almost passed out from the pain - my vision went black and everything. Let me tell you that going to work a night shift in a poultry factory after something like that happens really sucks. After my shift, I went to the hospital. I ended up having to quit my job because of that injury.

For the next 4 months, there was pain and a horrible feeling of instability in the joint. Even now three years later it is still not 100% stable, and never will be. For example, if I roll over in bed or move a certain way, sometimes the shoulder will shift uncomfortably. There is no pain anymore, though.

It's funny. My girlfriend and I are both in our twenties and we already have chronic injuries: my shoulder and her hip (which she messed up playing soccer in high school). We're a couple of feebs.

I broke my middle finger once going for a rebound but that was no big deal. The worst:

Back of the high school pickup game on concrete courts. I was going for a rebound against a big (about 6'3, 230 of solid muscle vs my 6' 150) dumb/immature guy. I won (I could jump out of the gym) so he grabbed onto my neck/shoulders and his weight threw me off so I somehow landed with both of our wight on my right knee. It bled a lot and hurt for a while but then was fine and I kept playing. That night after sitting in the bleachers for a while I stood up and there was no knee - I almost fell down a few rows but caught myself on a friend. Anyway, it apparently messed up my mechanics, led to cartiledge damage, screwed up the other knee, and I had arthritis in both by 22. They are worse now but for some reason not as painful these days. I am not supposed to run, play basketball, or do anything with sharp, cutting movement.

So at the time it didn't seem like a big deal, but that one moment messed up my life forever. Stupid dumb guy.

the worse basketball injury i can think of?

Thank goodness I have been safe, and never had any tears or broken bones or concussions or anything like that.

But a few years back, maybe in 2003, I was playing basketball at this Mormon Church off of west road near Jones road.

The church is kinda small and the gym is about the size of a volley ball court and a half. You can play at most, four on four full court.

Anyhoo, on one side of the court, they have a bullentin board. it's fairly big, and the border is made out of wood.

I think we were on a fast break, or we were defending a fast break, but somehow, i get bumped, and i start back pedaling real quickly so i don't fall or whatever, and my lower back hit the edge of the wood bullentin board. It cut a slice into my shirt, and it cut me in the back pretty good. It's about a two inch gash, about two inches to the left of my spine. It took a while to stop the bleeding. I still have that scar to this day.

Another time, at this same freaking church, I was on a fast break, and i'm driving it to the hoop, and then all of a sudden, this dude, a friend/coworker of mine goes for the block, but his entire body and elbow and everything knocks me out of the air. he got me good. i ended up in the folding wall thing that they use to close the end off the court. it was painful. man, i cant shoot worth a damn. i had to rely on my speed and hops. Everybody that attends that church can shoot lights out.

    yeah, i'm still living.
    so it's ok

I got a broken nose during a game in high school. Had to run my ass off the court and into the locker room to spray blood in the sink.

I don't exactly recall since it was a while ago, but sadly I think it was from the guys knee/thigh. It was called a charge....not sure if I was trying to draw one or not. I think I was helping from the weak side.
