Jim Petersen may be biased, but brings far more to the table than Calvin as far as insight and knowledge of the game, IMO. He filled in for Calvin one night and did a great job--really knew a lot about the Rockets for someone who doesn't cover them. I can't imagine Calvin attempting to fill in for another team's color guy and have more to talk about besides cookies.

The Spurs and Kings guys are atrocious (I only remember them because they were recent).

Walton is one of the best in the biz--hilarious. I wouldn't mind hearing him when the Rockets play the Clips tonight.

Hey Clutch I actually agree with you. The truth is he isn't cut out for announcing NBA games. I really wish we had Kevin Harlan back. I think he is the best announcer in Basketball. He is so enthusiastic and he doesn't put down the other team all the time. I love the Timberwolves to death, but I can go without Jim Petersen.

The Kings announcers are totally arrogant. Especially the color guy.

What about Tom Heinsen? He is annoying beyond belief.

Being from Dallas, I think the Dallas announcers can actually be boring at times, but least they are not idiotic loud-mouths like many of the other announcers you guys are describing. I don't really think the announcers really have to "be exciting" to do a good job. The players actions and the crowd reactions are enough to get me excited without the announcer pointing out the obvious of "Wow! What a great play!". IMO, Bob Ortegal (the Mavs color man) does a good job of pointing out strategy and why things are happening the way they are.

On the topic of bad announcers, I think the NBC/TBS is horrible. Peter Vescey is a moron that critizes everything about everybody and never has a compliment for anyone. Did anyone see the Raptors/Pacers game on Tuesday? Both the announcers and studio guys spent 10 times the amount of time joking around with each other as they did talking about the game?

It was actually kind of a joke played by TBS. The studio and commentary guys switched for a night. I think it was on a bet or something.(?) That game was just an aberration.

I know that they switched just for that game. But their normal telecasts aren't much better. When the Mavs played their only national TV game earlier this year on NBC, the announcers never gave the Mavs any respect, and Peter Vescey used his pre-game talk to rip on Mark Cuban.

Oh great. I get Clipper announcers, and get a guy named Michael Smith instead of Bill Walton. Fantastic.

You dont like this guy do you?

I agree that this guy is annoying, biased, and uninformed.

But i think the "Timberwolves or Rockets" thing was just about his being a Minny announcer, and the Rockets being the team that could take away their playoff spot.

Also, there was this guy who used to do the Minny games, and was excellent.

He was pretty funny, and still maintained good commentary during the game.

Man, these Twolves announcers are just KILLING me.

They're sitting here saying Aaron Williams is strong but Kevin Garnett is stronger. Are they freakin' serious?!?! Aaron Williams being one of the strongest players in the league, and Kevin Garnett being a stick who I doubt has ever seriously hit the weightroom.

Also, they just love to rip into Stephon Marbury. Sure what he did was wrong, but they are showing no class. They are talking about how the radio shows will be abuzz about how Brandon got the best of Marbury, how Marbury was selfish, and then after Marbury got blocked once they rudely said "they threw that right back in his grill!"

Their announcers have sunk to a new low.

    CLASSLESS!!!

That's all I have to say about their announcers. They just showed a sign from the crowd that said "Stephon who?". Totally uncalled for, and blatant disrespect.

THEN,the announcers gloat about their franchise best record versus the east, and at home, when one of the announcers arrogantly says "How u like dem apples NBA fans?"

    Unbelievable.......

He actually said, "How u like dem apples NBA fans?" That's ridiculous. It would have been bad enough from a good team. But a team in 8th place has no reason to say that whatsoever.

Another thing I hate about the T-Wolf announcers is the way they refer to the players. They usually always refer to them by their initials.

"What a great shot by AP!" "Look at TB go" Wow, check out SM!" "Yeah, great shot by WS." "FS is a great coach!" "Another spectacular play by RN!" MY GOD, JUST SAY THEIR NAMES! JUST ONCE, PLEASE!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

if i had to choose the best play by play guy I would choose gene peterson, he gets so excited it makes you excited, especially when a rocket gets fouled and makes the basket he'll scream "two and a foul!!!!" or or when a rocket makes a huge three he'll yell "bingo!!!!!!" , Its like listening to the biggest rockets' fan call the game. Does anyone else listen to this guy?

That sounds like a nightmare to listen to.

But then, I'm so spoiled it's embarrassing. I grew up in the 70's/80's listening to Vin Scully announcing for the Dodgers, and Chick Hearn calling Lakers games. Imagine my surprise when I moved from L.A. and found out that not all announcers were that good -- and, especially, that very few knew any way to convey excitement besides being buffoonish "homers."

The absolute lowlight, though, was living in Chicago and listening to the incompetents who cover the Bulls. You want bias? One night during Jordan's comeback, he is bringing the ball across halfcourt, and doesn't see an opponent coming up behind him for a steal. Sitting courtside, the color announcer (Johnny Kerr) yells, "MICHAEL, LOOK OUT!" in time for Jordan to pick up his dribble.
