Yeah you're right, it was just a coincidence that the Rangers had the best two years in their existence after nearly not existing at all under him. Daniels drives Nolan out and has twice payroll and half the talent now. Ya should be wishing Nolan will partner up and buy the Stros.
I gotta admit, fellow Astro fans, this season has gotten me down big-time. Like a poster said (I think it was Nick) being terrible this season wasn't part of the plan. So far all we have to show for our troubles at the MLB-level is Springer, some so-so dudes (Castro, Altuve, Villar), and some so-so pitchers (Cosart, Obie). Nothing to add here, just wanted to mope around because this season has been a major bummer.
Look at the bright side - we won't have to worry about someone hitting a 3 run home run with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to end their playoff run this year.
He could have made these tweets at any point in the last 2 years. Astros were sufficiently torn down by the start of 2013. Luhnow has always had to be able to prove he can do more than just build a minor league system. Guess there's just only so much losing that one town can take.
The unrest is bubbling up because this season was supposed to be the one where we started to see the fruits of our suckiness. Instead we're 30 games in and somehow WORSE than last season. Plus, it gets boring watching a major league team the same way one watches a minor league team.
Anyone that thought the Astros were not going to be terrible this season, wasn't being realistic. What young players of any real substance has been added? Springer, as a rookie? The Astros added some mediocre players (they knew they were mediocre), but they were a 90-100 loss team from day 1.
At least you have an excuse not to watch them with the CSN issues. I can't say the same for the Cubs who are probably just as bad with a better roster.
Yeah, you're probably right. I guess I was hoping to see some noticeable improvement from the "so-so" guys I listed up there and some more rookies. A "light at the end of the tunnel" kind of scenario, which hasn't materialized.
I'll disagree to the point that I thought there would be marked improvement and not backsliding. Why? Improvement/Establishment of: Castro - WTH mate? Cosart - or at least having him for the full year (so far, I've been pleased and think he'll continue to flash but be up and down) Keuchel - he's been good OB - he's been bad Hoes - WTF? Dominguez - got the glove - bat has gone backwards Villar - has been well improved Addition of: Feldman - he's been better than I thought Albers - hurt Qualls - guess last year was a fluke and he's lost it Fowler - less than what I expected but could still come around Springer - knew he'd take lumps but see some sparks So theoretically, during the offseason we improved our starting and relief pitching and added some speed while getting better defense up the middle. In reality - our bullpen is even worse. Starting pitching has been about what we hoped. Defense up the middle has been very good. Batting has been historically bad. I don't think the bad hitting is sustainable any more than a team going on a major hot tear is, but right now we are fixing a flat while driving a bus. Just no way to get anything fixed properly. Expectations to no longer be a laughing stock were justified. Frankly, I'm disgusted at how bad this team is.
Well he also has a rxpqrt+4.4/9 of 17, which is outstanding So yea you are right, Qualls is really good
The problem is, every other team gets some improvement from established players and adds new players as well. To pass the competition, we must do these things better than the competition. Obviously, we haven't yet because this would show in the W/L column. Despite Crane's voice to his season ticket holders and optimistic fans, this team is still a few years away.
So you're basically saying the signings of Albers/Qualls/Feldman are almost equivalent to the stop-gap FA signings that were happening at the end of the Drayton era? I mean, these guys aren't going to turn this team around now, and by the time they're finally good again they're all unlikely to be essential personnel. I understand if they're just trying to boost up their value and flip them for young upstarts... but I honestly believe they were all signed to help the team win now. Why spend money on players "they knew were mediocre"? None of them are generating any sort of fan interest. They were all signed to fill needs... to help the team win. The fact that this team is no better (and in some ways "worse") than they were last year is a disappointment.
Although there is some truth to this dude's tweet... I won't forget that this guy is the same one that covers SOCCER.
Could have Jose Fernandez and Wacha fronting the rotation right now, just by drafting them. Not saying Springer and Correa won't turn out to be good, but Fernandez Wacha Feldman Cosart Things would look a little different Point being, while money spent is a big part of the big picture, you better hit with your draft picks too
