Maybe I'm being too harsh on Dumars and judged him solely on the past 5 years rather than the great run they had at the beginning of the 2000s.

Somehow I completely forgot about MJ the GM. So yea, I'll go ahead and switch Dumars out for MJ.

Chicago's main problem is a cheap owner, who would not pay the tax despite being in a huge market, making a ton of money and having an elite star. Their front office has mostly made good moves.

They acquired two high draft picks for Eddy Curry. Turned one of them into Noah. The other one they made a mistake with-- drafted Lamarcus Aldridge but trade him for Tyrus Thomas (they did manage to snag a pick from Charlotte for Thomas, though). They also drafted guys like Taj Gibson, Omer Asik and Jimmy Butler with late picks and signed useful role players like CJ Watson, Bellinelli, Dunleavy, Korver, etc. The one big cap clogging mistake they made was Boozer.

Maybe with a less cheap owner they could have amnestied Boozer and traded, say, Deng earlier and gone after an elite FA. Maybe they could have gone over the tax line to pay some supporting guys but Jerry Reinsdorf is their owner and these things didn't happen.

Colangelo signed Nash, I think. If so, he essentially started that whole contender. He's a two time executive of the year in that 10 year span.

If we are talking 5 or 6 years, he's one of the worst. 10 years, i don't think so.

Chris Grant. Just look at what he's done, it makes you cringe.

I know one thing.....for as much as I liked CD he wasnt a great GM.

It took Morey three years to get out from underneath some of the contracts CD handed out. Kelvin Cato ring a bell? Matt Maloney who the Rockets were paying for 5 years after he retired?

CD gets credit for the two rings...but once the CBA went into effect he was clueless on how to operate under the salary cap restrictions.

True, but he wasn't able to put it all together with the Suns. Look at how many first rounders he traded for role players. The Suns could have been much deeper and kept Joe Johnson had he drafted role players instead of trading/overpaying for them.

Plus, he was terrible with Toronto.

David Kahn is pretty bad, probably the worse.

Drafting 3 PGs in one draft, and somehow traded away the best one (Ty Lawson).

One of the most recent move he made before getting released was trading the 18th pick to the Rockets for Chase Budinger, and that 18th pick turned out to be Terrence Jones.

You don't remember that draft very well, do you?

Morey had Valanciunas at #1 over Irving. I think he knows a thing or two about basketball.

He was desperately trying to trade up to get Valanciunas. I know it killed him that he ended up dropping to #5.

CD is a always a sucker for giving out big contracts, being too loyal to his players.
But hey, he is always willing and able to pull the trigger for big trades.

    No.

    Darko
    Villanueva
    Gordon
    Smith
    Jennings

Dumars made great moves in his first 4 years, but the last 10 haven't been so great, despite drafting decently.

Not sure where you saw that. I'd love to see proof that valaciunas wasn't just coveted by morey, but that he was coveted more so than kyrie...because i flat out don't see that anywhere.

All of the mock draft picks that year had kyrie going #1 despite missing his entire year at Duke. Vala was never in real contention for being the #1 pick.

Kyrie was the up and away 1st pick, that's my point. Morey probably did like Vala. But until you show some evidence, I'll continue believing that he wouldve also taken the obvsion pick--Kyrie--#1 that year
