The fast break looked pretty nice when Posey came here. Posey's shooting percentage also went up when he got here. I think you guys need to look at the other players as well Steve if you want to truly find out what's wrong with the fast break. Start with Small forward.

Sorry, But it seemed like a good thread to take a shot at stevie
There are lots of PGs worst then steve, but I will list only the starters.
    Gilbert Arenas
    Speedy Claxton
    Leandro Barbosa
    Jalen Rose
    Chucky Atkins
    Marko Jaric
    Jason Terry

I would probably take any starter on another team for our pg.

Dont see how a top 5 Point Guard can't break the top 50 in assist per turnover.

i personally like steve. i like steve a lot.

but i think it's entirely possible there might be another somebody out there who would fit better as a PG on this team...even if that somebody is somebody i like a lot less than steve.

As a player, I would pick Francis over all except for maybe 7 or 8 PG in the game. But I just don't think he fits with where this team's going. And he's just not a good POINT guard.

If we're arguing about who's a better player and not who is helping his team win more, thn I'd have to say...

The only better players, individually, are Marbury, Kidd, Baron, and Bibby. Steve is 5th, tied with Steve Nash.

So, you're saying Steve helps his team win more?

Hm, Marbury, he helped his team back win back when he had garnett. J-kidd, hmm, has always been surrounded by good, young, talented, and consistently capable players. Baron davis? Now THAT'S what Steve is more like.

Steve wasn't even an important piece of this season's success. He started playing better, when we had our backs to the walls, when Yao was burned out and couldn't go anymore thanks to "BANG BANG BANG", when Cato was injured and missed games. As some poster said, if we wanted that, we'd get Robert Horry, or hell even better, Derek Fisher.
Yao, JJ, Cat and Cato however, were the real reasons we were in position to get into postseason play. Without them, Steve could've had the same game against Denver, it would've been meaningless, we would've already been too far out.

i feel your pain Rocket River. i'm glad that there are posters like you ,who are still positive, on this BBS
the steve bashing is getting absurt. after the lakers serie the bashing was a bit less. but the bashing has started again. how in the world can people say that TINSLEY is better then steve. if you think that you have never saw basketbal. Steve is a great baller. of course he make mistakes but do not forget al the good things steve brings to the game.

Indeed, the bashing is just as bad as the blind loving.

And indeed, Steve is a "great baller", unfortunately, we are in no need of highlight reels or circus shots to get us by a rebuilding year. It is time for smarts, growing, maturing, developement, and consitency.

And my good man, let's not make less of the bad and make great of the good, when it is not so. His bad weighs heavier than his good, because one is a lot more consistent than the other. What does one say when a 5yr vet is still doing 1st year rookie mistakes? We cannot ignore all his flaws, over the small goods he provides ever so rarely, and defintely shouldn't over hisi successes over one team.
Let's be reasonable here and see with open unbiased eyes.:)

What I'm saying is that, if I were the Bobcats in the expansion draft, I'd have Steve as the 5th PG on my list.

However, if I was the Rockets, Spurs, or Lakers, Francis would not be in my top 15 for people I'd like to have playing 40 minutes at PG.

However, I'd be perfectly happy if Steve worked on his SG skills this summer, and next summer, we split his minutes almost equally between PG and SG. I'd love to have this backcourt rotation:

    C
    PF
    Small Forward
    JJ/Francis
    Francis/Tyronne Lue

    RR,

I assume your question is rhetorical, because if it's a real question, you'd be getting what nWo34Life listed.

Let's just forget about whether Steve fit this team or not. Let's just say that Steve is a max player. And let's assume that each team on average has one max player that is worth the money. That's 29 players there, which is about 6 for each position.

Now the question is, is Steve Francis a top 6 PG in the NBA? Can we think of 6 PGs better than him? I think this is a more meaningful question to ask. (This is a real question, not rhetorical. I'm not using it to make a point.)

lets see, JJ was in sacermento last year, and they can sure run a good fast break. From what i remember he fit in well in sacremento so obvisouly Small forward is not our problem. SOF are blind. IF the guy can not run a fast break he can not run a fast break, dont blame others, face the facts.

Nope, AIDs is a purely point guard-driven epidemic.

I guess you are trying to pass the buck onto Jim Jackson. While he is slow, that is no excuse for Steve's continual botching of fast breaks.

When Posey was here, the only good fast breaks were where Posey took it by himself or sprinted down the court and Steve threw a baseball pass. But our fastbreak still sucked, and should have been better with guys like Posey and Cuttino who are fast and can finish.

On the contrary, there was no fast break when Posey was here either. Sure, Steve would throw him a long alley oop pass once a game, but a fast break is about doing certain things, like:

    1) Bringing the ball up the middle of the floor - Steve tends to run to the side, and thus collides with or cuts off one of the players running with him.

    2) Passing frequently - a great fast break never lets the ball touch the floor. A good one moves the ball between players in order to confuse the defender. Steve often never passes on the fast break and runs into the lone defender, thus earning a charge foul.

    3) Passing smartly - A good PG will make the defender commit to covering one direction and then pass in the opposite direction. You do not just pass at random, which Steve tends to do. Thus, the person receives the ball just as the defender gets in front of him. Charge called or missed shot. This is made even worse when Steve tries to make a highlight pass instead of a normal one.

Steve has never been good at the fundamentals of fast break, which is unfathomable considering that I learned them in a 1-semester college PE class. What the hell were his coaches teaching him ?

    THE FAST BREAK:

What was the Rocket's BEST Fast Breaking Team?
I would say maybe the 86' Rockets

Rudy nor JVG seem to be Big on the Fast Break

the fast break did improve when posey got her because 1 he played the passing lanes and two he can finish
