Great point! I totally agree. The truth is both moves had to be made, Adelman was going to give you exactly what he has with this team an overachieving bottom of the barrel team. Any team thinking their going to make it far without a star to lean on is crazy. Sounds good and I'm all for our Rockets doing the unexpected. As for Kubiak, the guy has had the offense playing like a top tier team and what the FO actually did was hire a new head coach for the defense, which in my opinion was exactly what it needed. Kubiak doesn't know defense so hire a head coach who does, and if all else fails fire Kubiak and make Wade interim coach until someone better comes along. This decision copuled with the lockout was the right thing to do. But to answer the question.... If i had to pick Kubiak (Rockets rebuilding mode has began why keep a top toer coach; Kubiak 5 seasons no playoffs wins outright)
Actually, I like an owner who gives a **** about the team. Sure, RA did good things in Houston. Did he do enough? Les does not think so.
It's not even close. One is risky and could prove to be a stupid mistake, full of hubris. The other is so far beyond risk that it would have to be rectified to some degree just to have a chance to be risky, and is a confirmed stupid mistake, full of hubris.
I like how you framed the question as an OWNER decision. That's important here because that's what happened with RA. Unless McNair overruled his GM on keeping Kubiak, I'd say that's definitely the more rational decision. The funny (or sad) thing is, both owners are trying to WIN NOW. The owner of the Rockets decided to completely shoot himself in the foot because he thinks he knows more about winning in the NBA than Rick Adelman.
this is too easy keeping kubiak is ridiculous compare his results with adelmans and you'll see what im talking about
I picked "keeping Kubiak", because I think Adelman would not want to return unless he could contend which this team cannot. Why Kubiak is still coach, I have no idea other than the owner likes him?
This. The Texans are trying to be contenders so keeping Kubiak can be seen as a mistake. Especially if there was a chance at them getting a proven coach. Either way I don't think either are BIG mistakes. The Texans mistake was hiring these unknown DCs who have had little success.
Because Adelman actually said that he wanted to coach this team again, and he spent several days talking to the GM to see if their differences could be ironed out.
One thing I'd like to point out is that even if they're the same "kind" of mistakes, one is obviously much more important than the other due to the following factors. 1. The Rockets have a true GM in place, the Texans GM is Kubiak's lapdog. 2. The NFL has 53 players and coaches matter a great deal. The NBA is a superstar league, even moreso today with the rules favoring stars. 3. The Texans have playoff worthy talent, the Rockets do not. 4. The Texans are keeping a coach who has coached mediocrity, something fans do not like. The Rockets are firing a coach that has coached mediocrity, something fans do not like. In the end, both teams could suffer if the decision ends up being incorrect. The difference is, the Texans would suffer A LOT MORE if they're wrong.
Not even close ... Kubiak is a joke and Rick deserves a championship caliber team (the Rockets aren't ... yet).
Both os those decisions are yet to be decided. I never speak of a situation in absolutes until it is decided after the fact. Right now neither is.
