I think most people are basing their opinions on more than just Julian's comments. This situation has been openly discussed for years by many people including fellow Beatles, people who worked with the Beatles, aquaintances of John and even John Lennon himself in interviews. Now if we heard about your "situation" from both you, your ex, friends and aquaintances, I'd think we could paint a fairly accurate picture about the older shrew who took advantage of an innocent young man.
First off, can we PLEASE keep George Bush and Al Gore out of at least one freaking thread??!!! Thank you. BK: Another person you fail to forget in this whole mess is George Martin. I've read several instances where he said (one in a Recording mag I have) that John's treatment of Julian was very uncomfortable for him. Apparently, Julian would sometimes come to the studio as a toddler. John virtually ignored the fact that he even existed. Martin said that Ringo and Paul spend their time playing with him. Martin has said that he felt very sorry for Julian because John treated him so poorly. Besides Martin, there are the other members of the Beatles who have made similar comments as well as biographers and photographers around at the time. It's not as if it is some big secret that John was a difficult person to be around. Everyone from the people he worked with musically (before and after the Beatles) to friends and writers have openly said he was a jerk most of the time. It wasn't until much later in his life that he began to make peace with his past and be a nicer person. That happens to a lot of people. Unfortunately, he didn't live long enough for us to see the transformation. ------------------ Mmmmmmm. Sacrelicious.
Someone wrote this. (I forget who, because I had to struggle through a lot of drivel, including yet another political set-up .....) I just don't believe that John really deserves slack for the way he behaved. If the object is to have everyone post agreement or disagreement on some person's disclosed behavior ... then I agree. He behaved extremely unconscionable. But my real point was that given the circumstances, many people may have behaved the same way. I hope to think I would not have done so. But I am using a far wiser brain, and more mature experience to come to that decision than John Lennon apparently had at the times in question. ------------------
