No doubt about it, he's a very nice guy. That's why most think he didn't recall/know about Eddie.

They weren't discussing history, they were ridiculing him.

As far is we know, Eddie was a very good person with personal demons. When someone crosses over, it's uncool to ridicule. It's a fairly basic social norm.

It was a mistake. Get over it.
    Clyde fumbled as usual,
and Bill did the best he could to pick up the pieces (when Clyde wouldnt take a hint to shut up).
These guys are professionals and wouldnt do something like that on purpose,
pull your panties out of your

Clyde bringing it up was awkward but can be forgiven, especially when you consider he announcing abilities. But Bill making the comment that he played like Andy Griffith was just unnecessary, even if Clyde wouldn't drop it there's no need to say that.

Andy Griffith would have played better.

I was actually stunned by that, anyway, RIP, Eddie.

Poor taste, yes...you hate to see it, but guys make mistakes and honestly, they should apologize to make things right, IMHO...

It's not that people's opinions of someone should change, it's that you should show some tact and class when you're a TV analyst covering the team that he used to play for. His family and friends have already been through enough as it is, now they need Clyde Drexler, someone who probably didn't even know him, criticizing him in front of the entire city? There's a time and place for everything, and last night was neither to criticize Eddie Griffin.

Well I've always had slightly different views on death from others (in that I'm able to very easily accept it as just something that happens), so I guess this is another time when I'll differ.

I think it's fine to ridicule him. If it was the immediate past (in the last month or 2 I guess?) then I can understand needing to hold back. But I think enough time has passed... just cause a guy is dead shouldn't mean he is excused from ridicule that he would have endured if he were alive and in prison or in a mental hospital or something.. (since it seemed he was headed that way based on the way he died and all)

yobod says there's a time and place for everything, and last night was not the time to criticize EG. Well, when is? Again, death is not a forever-immunity pass on everything negative. Or, to me it isn't. Maybe there's a time period of waiting that I think has passed and that many of you don't.

Eddie earned the ridicule. End of story.

Let him be a warning to others to not waste their talent.

I'm so glad that we finally got decent power forwards who cares in the form of Scola and Landry. I guess the two at the same time is the universe's way of making up for Eddie.

You know, everything that needs to be said has already been said here after so...

Let's bring in a side topic -- has Clyde commentating completely tarnished his legacy? I believed before, even with his UH coaching fiasco, he was a legend. And even though nothing can take away his great playing career, everyone in Houston now sees him as an idiot. Hakeem, on the other hand, was smart to stay away from the limelight and let his legend speak for him.

nahh...clyde sucked so bad when he started. now he's just pretty bad. At least there has been improvement.

Regardless, I never thought he was incredibly intelligent or well-spoken or anything. I knew him for being an incredible bball player at UH, Portland, and here. And nothing has change that opinion or those memories...he's still legendary. (fyi, see espn's recent poll of their experts on best SG's of all time. drexler comes in at a solid #6)

I think Clyde forgot or did not know (he should, being in his position).

I respect for your opinion, but we all have different beliefs about why we have been given a life to live. For many, a social norm has evolved that you show some respect for those who have passed-on. It's like a universal (or near-universal) knowledge that what really matters is above and beyond our daily issues and annoyances. That person's life has ended and now has new challenges that has nothing to do with us and whether or not he was a good draft choice. (nothing personal)

For me, unless he treated other people in a hurtful way, I don't see the point in ridicule. It's not our place.

Like many, I'm with the opinion that Clyde forgot about eddie's death. And the andy griffith comment was just a bad joke with no foul intended. umm..umm..Hispanic?
