I really need your help guys, i don't know if many of the CFers on this board know a plant called Wormwood or Artemisia absinthium but I want to know if anybody on this board knows where i can get some. The reason i ask is because my wife has recently seen a doctor out of the country and my wife gets sick very often and has a weak immune system. The doctor said that this plant will help her out if she drinks it regularly. So if anybody knows where i can get this plant it would be very helpful and if you guys can get your hands on some i am willing to pay for it as well. So please guys give me a hand!
Sorry, what i meant are the fresh ones, like the ones that are in pots or in nature. But repped for trying!
from all the information i've gathered it is indeed a very common weed. Everywhere else in teh united states except i can't seem to find it in houston. I've been passing parks and woody areas as well trying to search for it. I've seen it on sale online but its the seeds only.
artemesia is poisonous. i plant it in my front yard cause the deer won't eat it. the doc is full of ****. edit...i guess it's only poisonous in large amounts. either way the doctor is a quack who is trying to give you folk remedies.
So Absinthe is made with wormwood....so the Dr. wants you to give your wife a hallucinogen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absinthe Absinthe (Cocktail) Angelica Root, Anise, Cardamom Pods, Coriander, Fennel Seed, Vodka, Wormwood Why not just buy a bottle?
It would be much safer than trying to consume the plant. People screwing up these folk remedy dosages is a quick way to kill yourself or someone.
cheeno- Don't rule out traditional medicine. A lot of people are confused by it and therefore dismiss it. He may be having your wife take Wormwood for a suspected parasite. If this is the case, look up Clarkia Tincture. It's kind of a super mix for killing parasites in your body. It has Black Walnut Green Hull, Cloves, and Wormwood leaves and flowers. If this is the case, this is what you want. Also, depending on your wife's sickness, you might want to read up on fecal transplants. It's gross, but there is some good science behind it. In essence, there are hundreds of different types of beneficial bacteria and other life in your digestive system that can't be cultured in a lab. If you lose it due to sickness or antibiotics that may kill it as a side effect, there is no pill you can take to replace it. The only way you can get it back in your body is from a donor. I recently listened to a great Freakonomics Podcast on it. Hope this helps.
lol....pretty extreme example. It may or may not work, but obviously if there are better/more accessible/less harmful alternatives, it's good to try those first. Your cynical example aside, you should keep an open mind, too, Pole. Everyone should. Assuming that everything has been tried or invented or dis-proven is a fool's errand.
I'm not totally dismissive of folk-style remedies, but I am of this one. I know artemesia and its cultivars have been used to kill worms, but there was no mention of worms. Also, this "doctor" didn't seem to recommend a dosage or even give a sample of the wormwood to use.
My nutritionist had me on wormwood (along with other vitamins) for 21 days as part of a liver cleanse. It was in pill form though and it tasted like ass.
Good point. I was reading between the lines because the OP didn't give us enough info. OP, we need more info.
well, abscinthe is made out of wormwood but the plant isn't entirely bad. I did my research as well and some parts of the plant are used in remedies as well. I thank you guys for all of your replies and for your help.
Well, wormwood is also a remedy used for cleansing out the ovarian system for women, not sure what its called but when the eggs drop they go through the falopian tube i believe, and currently my wifes tube is kind of blocked, drinking wormwood soup will help cleanse out the system. At first i was kind of skeptical aboutwhat the doctor said as well but he is a credible doctor.
