You know, I am against taxing the rich extremely more than other people, in fact I think everybody could be taxed more and get less credits. What really ticks me off is when wealthy people give off this false notion that everybody can be rich if you just work harder. There are two things wrong with this scenario. One, I already work hard and by blurting out the above statement it implies that I do not because I am lack similar wealth. Two, those who are better off need those less fortunate people for the types of jobs that the wealthy or better off explicitly do not or will not do. As Judge Smails stated Well, the world needs ditch diggers, too. That statement, though smug in its context, is true. We need ditch diggers and garbage collectors and burger flippers and a host of other types of jobs like that.
last statement is correct. but anyways skin color matters too and also whether you are a woman or male. and also whether you grew up in poverty or not. and also whether you were raised by a single parent or not. and also whether you know the right people and are able to get lucky enough. and etc it's not always just hard work, it's hard work + many other factors... but of course, this common sense eludes many of the people here on this forum. even the people who paid 30k a year to go to a top premiere university in houston
This is one of the most persistent myths of the modern world. This myth is usually trotted out to justify the massive disparities in wealth in the United States. The implication is that the wealthy 'deserve' their wealth, and that the poor 'deserve' their poverty. It's a modern myth.
$75 Million to $18 billion. That is impressive. An over 200x gain on her monster inheritance. Its like getting $1000 from grandpa and making it into over $200,000. I'm impressed. That creation has sparked spending and hiring and capital to her nation and they should listen to her. Most people that inherit millions of dollars just screw around and spend it. Kudos to her for making her situation better. People need to determine what value they bring to the table then earn accordingly. If they'd rather smoke, drink or whatever than increase their propensity to earn then don't complain when you can't have the toys, healthcare or benefits that others do. If you're value is $5 an hour and you're paid $10, then you need to learn better skills. If you're true value is $10 and they're paying you $5 in an evil scheme than you should be able to find other firms that will recognize this and pay and attract better talent and the other firm will go out of business as they will have less talent. Lets look beyond the 'fear' and 'hatred' and appreciate someone willing to speak their mind in an age of false political correctness.
Sorry but a woman's value is to bring beauty, femininity and discretion into the world. I would rather be a homeless woman with humane looks, and a chance at feeling human intimacy, than her.
Since everybody's saying it: To be fair, if the equilibrium wage was $2/day and we paid everybody $4/day, inflation would be ridiculous.
She's not the richest woman in the world. smh @ the latimes [edit] at the reported "$18b" she wouldn't be the richest. But the LA times quote of $18b is apparently much below her current value today.
"Solo! Hay lapa no ya, Solo! Solo! Come out of there, Solo! Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha. Have you now, ha, ha. Han, mah bukee, keel-ee caleya ku kah."
uhhh, all she really did was sign a few contract papers with mining co's like rio tinto, to start developing the mining licenses that daddy had already been sitting on for decades. it's like your pops leaves you some prime oil fields in saudi arabia yet to be exploited, and you visit exxon/aramco offices one afternoon to sign some papers >>>> all of a sudden you be boy-genius who jumped to the head of the forbes list (which is a fictitious joke anyways).
I'm thinking being gifted $75 million means you can take a few more risks than being gifted $1000 in your journey to riches. There are lots of millionaires that started with probably less than $100. Now those people, I'm really impressed with. That being said, she's the richest woman in the world? More than the Walton sisters? She must've passed them up recently or something. Can you imagine if Sam Walton was still alive and held onto his fortune? Damn. Now that'd be rich.
I'm trying to start a business and boy, do i wish i have a few hundred grand for investment. I can hire sales reps or get ad money. To advertise on youtube(front page) is over a million dollars
LOL the 75 million she inherited was in the form of a vast amount of undeveloped deposits left by her father. Her billions came from the jump in commodity prices and starting to mine the deposits her father acquired. In the form of your example basically grandpa buried $200,000 in a $1000 box. All you have to do is open it.
Yep. She had 75 million dollars of mining rights that went through the roof. Its like inheriting King Ranch and finding out that there was oil deposits underneath the land.
