the new city center is Las Vegas is going to be state of the art. Its the single most expensive private construction project in US HISTORY. Funny thing about this place is that DUBAI WORLD (an investment group headed by the King of Dubai) just poured in 2.7 billion to this project by purchasing MGM Grand stock. I really cant wait until this opens up, i just got back from vegas 2 weeks ago and saw some of the initial construction behind New York New York. what a beautiful thing. CityCenter The most expensive privately funded construction project in U.S. History. The first phase of MGM MIRAGE's CityCenter Las Vegas, a gargantuan $7.4 billion, 68 acre project, is under construction on the Las Vegas Strip between Bellagio and Monte Carlo. It will eventually occupy the space behind and between Monte Carlo and New York New York as well. The Boardwalk Hotel was demolished along with a few local businesses to make room for this immense project. Harmon Road will meander through CityCenter. CityCenter will be an urban environment with nicely hidden parking structures, parks and a complex of rooftop gardens. The project will be a mini-city with its own Fire Station, an on-site power plant and lots of pedestrian space. CityCenter has achieved LEED certification for the project as outlined by the U.S. Green Building Council
TRIQSTER, I thought I was the only person who reads the Vegas Today/Tmmrow site! lol! Does that mean that Michael Jackson will have a show there? Since he and the prince of Dubai are boyz.
LOL! You are greatly mistaken if you think one can't party or drink in Dubai. It has some of the best clubs and bars you will ever see. And it has some of the finest women you will ever hope to see. Definitely no gambling though. Yet.
a friend was just there working in dubai or UAE, says she had to 'cover up'. hmm, maybe dubai > macau in hot chicas?
I've seen chick in miniskirts in ghetto areas. And I've seen them virtually nude on the sandy beaches. So I have no idea where your friend was hanging around. The malls are like one big fashion show.
from my friends email from UAE: One thing I am still getting used to is the fact that male and female environments are very much apart. The university I am based at has a female section and a male section. I am stationed on the male side, as a Westerner, this is okay, otherwise, females are not supposed to come to the male section, which makes things a bit of a challenge when I go to the bathroom as I need to go all the way to the other side of the university to go to the bathroom! I kind of wore this shirt yesterday where my shoulders were showing, and I was told that that this is not okay and I needed to wear a jacket. So, I wore my jacket and with temperatures around 110 degrees plus, I got heatstroke and that was not much fun! I am okay now, but I am definitely drinking a lot more liquids and eating more as the nurse reminded me that I am now in the middle of the desert and I am burning more calories than I usually would. It's taking me a while, but I am starting to settle in.
Oh..there are definitely trouble spots. You are in the Middle East after all. As a tourist (which I was) I might not know the details on how to dress in school, etc. I was just stating what I see on the beaches, roads and the malls. There are girls in full "hijabs" at the malls, but underneath you can tell they are about as sluttily dressed as some of the other ones. Then there are girls who are dressed as if they just came out of a club in Vegas. And I never said anything about showing public affection between a guy and girl. I think that is definitely a big taboo in the older areas. The newer areas by Jebel Ali are pretty liberal.
