I still have family in the UK, but I've been all over the world, and 99% of this is because my mom worked for an international airline for 30+ years. I was able to travel for free until I was 23-24, and then I no longer counted as her "child" in the airline's eye. At this point, since she wasn't married and thus didn't have a husband to be her travel companion, she was able to name whomever she wanted, so she just kept me on as her travel companion and that is where I reside to this day.

We pretty much went somewhere overseas literally every summer until I was out of college, and then it became more like every couple of years. I think the summer after kindergarten or first grade was my first trip to the UK. I haven't been anywhere since 2006 when I went to Peru....I've had the travel bug for several years now.

9/11 changed all the rules and screwed up the ease with which I could freely hop on a plane or another carrier, with or without her, and travel freely, but a lot of the time it's a family affair of some sort, with my aunt(s) and cousin(s) coming along as well.

My mother can organize flights, backup flights in case of getting bumped, backups for the backups, hotels, rental cars, and trains, but she can't figure out her DVR or DVD player to save her life.

I'm not in the industry, but working for an international carrier is a pretty good gig: free flights to wherever for you and your family, make lifelong friends all over the world, hotel discounts when you need them. One could certainly have a worse life.

I honestly have no idea what that list means. I am back to school studying accounting now and hoping to earn a master of science in accounting eventually. Does this bode well for me or no?? Also where is engineering or physics on that list? What does it signify?

Doesn't answer my question about how you can become a consultant in your field with a bachelor's and he seems like a young guy as well. Not trying to be nosy I am just curious about it that is all :)

(off topic) Finances and finance people are so boring! Hope people find a job that is really about improving society and not just around creating a market for people who want to churn money.

My experience is just choosing to work in a foreign country/company by choice. Unfortunately, local hires are now as proficient as Americans from top to bottom in the corporate chain and standard of living is pretty good most places you'd go - so say goodbye to hardship or expat packages where you'd get to travel even more.

Once you're in Asia or Europe, it's so easy to travel around to so many countries and cultures. Every time it's a beautiful and refreshing thing to see other cultures, ways of life and thought. Hope everyone gets the experience.

Those were the rankings for McCombs business school's finance program. It is ranked #6 in the nation and it has very good placement with employers.

lol, it bodes well for you if you go to UT b-school. UT also has a very highly ranked engineering program but for physics you would definitely need a masters to get good work.

So to answer your question about how he got the job so young, my guess would be mccombs networking and career placement helped him out. just a guess though

I've been travelling internationally for work for about 10 years and the ironic thing is that most people who want to travel don't have the skills and most people have the skills don't want to travel. Most people I meet on the airplane are generally older with grown kids. Those are the few people that have the skill/experience and don't have family and kids weighing them down.

The only reasons companies send you world wide is because they don't have the talent locally to do the work, you are there to set something up, or you are running the show somehow. The key is that you have to be able to do something that the local people can't do yet. In other words you have to be special. Most international travel jobs are generally in HR, technical or marketing. The few young people I meet on the plane are usually travelling to deploy some internal system to there global locations. I see very few young international road warriors. Domestic on the other is much different. You just need to get into some type of consulting and you will be travelling all the time. Unfortunately it maybe to Bentonville Arkansas every week for a year.

I travel for consulting, I set up Biz dev for companies primarily in the US, Canada and the UK.

I am going to England on Tuesday to meet with 2 companies that I am consulting for, one in Manchester, and one in Stockholm.

There is some cool stuff about traveling, and it always feels great to get back home....

Going overseas is a bit tough, just as your body is adjusting to the time change, I usually come home.

The money is good, but I miss some of my kids events....which I hate....

Still all in all, not a bad deal....the pros outweigh the cons....

For instance, I have over 600k in Airline miles...so whenever we go on vacation as a family we are all in first class.

    ;)

The reason I was traveling to Toronto every week my second year out of college was because our Toronto office landed a huge project in Toronto, and didn't have enough local staff for the job. I work at our company's HQ in Chicago, so they flew me out.

I love Toronto, one of the companies that I am considering is thinking about Toronto or Detroit...because of the government subsidies.

Sadly, I think it is Detroit that is gonna win....while Toronto is a BEAUTIFUL city.
