Truly historic. Interesting to see his rapid rise as a former HS draft pick.... and he's even better in the post-season.
Are all MLB trophy presentations as boring / not in front of the audience because it's an away win? I mean, the tone of both presentations are really quiet and boring.
You'd rather they present it in front of an stadium that's empty? I like the locker room presentation... its how it used to be. "In front of the audience" presentations have only been going on since the mid 90's... in fact, the Rockets presentation in 94 was the first one ever in the NBA.
That Chevy representative made it hard to watch. Was struggling to catch his breath and looked down at a card multiple times for a recited line.
Well, basketball has its trophy presentations regardless if it X winning on Y's court, and vice versa. I'm just saying, it's not like the baseball stadium was completely devoid of Giants fans. Could be nice to give the fans who made the trip, a little love.
Pence: .444/.500/.667 Panda: .429/.467/.536 Those were MVP-caliber lines in their own right. Feel bad for KC though. They just had no answer for Bumgarner. And let's not forget the play made by Panik (and Crawford) when it looked like the Royals were on their way to a big inning in the 2nd.
Considering how Bumgarner was pitching...should the Royals have been more aggressive on Gordon's hit in the 9th? At least have him round 3rd to see if he could force a bad throw. He was basically walking into 3rd which tells me the ball was far enough away. Even after that, why not put in one of your speedsters to see if you could get in Bum's head with a possible steal. It's 2 outs in the 9th of Game 7 against a guy that was in the midst of one of the best pitching performances ever. I think you have to take a chance.
the play before the last pop-up was pretty unbelievable. I really thought the Giants were ready to choke. Is there a gif of Blanco misplaying that ball to center? I was at a bar and everyone put their hands on the head simultaneously.
Considering Bumgarner's dominance, that would not have been a bad decision and in retrospect should have been tried, however, a routine baseball play gets him thrown out at home: <iframe src='http://m.mlb.com/shared/video/embed/embed.html?content_id=36878179&topic_id=73955164&width=400&height=224&property=mlb' width='400' height='224' frameborder='0'>Your browser does not support iframes.</iframe>
Dynasties don't miss the playoffs every other year and barely squeak into the playoffs when they do make it.
http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/send-alex-gordon/ According to the math, if even had a 30% chance of scoring, they were better off trying it.
If he gets thrown out at home, people will say why you send him ? You have Perez up who was the only person to tag MadBum with a HR earlier in the series. Anyway it's damned if you do and damned if you don't if it doesn't work out.
Sure - but it doesn't mean it was the right choice. People loved the Rams' fake punt against Seattle in their own territory because it worked. People railed on Belicheck going for it on 4th-and-2 in their own territory against Colts in the playoffs because they didn't get it. It was essentially the same scenario in both cases. Unconventional will always get you criticized when it goes wrong. But it still is the right decision because you're increasing your chance of winning.
I'm saying it's not that clear cut that would have increased their chance of winning. Gordon isn't Dyson so I don't thing he would have scored. https://twitter.com/WorldofIsaac/status/527662206943760384/photo/1
Right - but he doesn't need to have been likely to score to make it a good decision. It just has to be better than your odds of winning otherwise. According to the article I posted, it increased their chance of winning if he scored just 30% of the time - and all that takes is a throw that's a little off line or a bobbled catch or the catcher positioning himself in front of a plate and causing interference or whatever. That said, this is a bit of an academic argument. There are very few coaches in any sport that make the right mathematical decisions, and it's an even more difficult one here because you have to make it in instantaneously (as opposed to the football examples I gave, where the coaches can take a bit to analyze the decision).
