I've met several people who have left because things are bad there.

Glynch would call these people "the ruling class" and of course they deserved it.

Not really. Maybe they are part of the ruling class, but doubtful given how small it is in Venezuela. Many of the relatively small middle class in Venezuela (in comparison to even our declining middle class numbers) are really opposed to the Chavistas. They object to spending on the poor on literacy, health and housing programs.

It is sort of like irrational fear of little guy Republicans such as college grads making say $60k in this country who identify with the wealthy and are fearful that if the poor get a bit more whether in food stamps or increased minimum wage etc that it will hurt them.

In both countries the ruling class preys on these middle class fears to thwart reform. Interestingly in Venezuela as in the US there is a racial component as the poorer Chavista backers tend to be darker than the traditional ruling class and the small educated middle class.

Sadly anecdotal evidence from two or three folks who left the country would be about par for the course wrt to your analytical sophistication.

Its almost as sophisticated as responding "koch brothers" to everything.

If anything is a koch conspiracy, its Chavez's moronic handling of the Venezuelan economy.

Talk about destroying your ideological credibility.
