Seeds announced for the World Cup. Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Columbia, Belgium, Columbia, Uruguay, Switzerland. This means that the pots will likely be the same as 2010, with CONCACAF teams in the same pot as Asia. So it looks like the US will get a seed, a UEFA team, the either a team from Africa or Chile/Ecuador. Group of Death for the US: Brazil, Netherlands, US, Ghana.
Ah, gotcha. One question I always had, is do they seed all the teams? Like number 1 seeds are in a bowl, number 2 seeds in a bowl, number 3 seeds in a bowl, number 4 seeds in a bowl....etc..... Then in the group stage draw one name from each bowl? DD
That's insanity. Switzerland? What exactly have they done to deserve a seed? Not make it out of the 1st round in 2010? Not make it to the quarterfinals since they hosted in 19-freaking-54? Uruguay doesn't qualify with an automatic spot and they get one? Did I miss something with Columbia? Have they won something? What a joke of a system.
I never expected the US to get a seed. Holland is more deserving than Switzerland. I'd argue Chile is more deserving than Uruguay (not an automatic qualifier) and Columbia (pretty much non-existent on the international stage).
They've been playing well the last 2 years...Since their poor showing in Copa America 2011 they've gone 15-4-4 in friendlies and WCQ.
I actually think Colombia & USA sides are currently on the same level. Home team probably wins. Not sure on a neutral site.

Yeah, seeds 1-8 are in Pot 1. The remaining teams are then placed into Pots 2-4 on a geographical basis (FIFA).
