well Altitude is not a factor against Mexico. but yeah Im soo mad with the Mexico's team, really cant score a goal in 3 home games?? SMH they need to fix something and quick!
They play in Columbus because it's a small venue. Lower chance of tickets getting in the hands of Mexican supporters. Let's be real, I'm sure there are Mexicans in Columbus, but I doubt they have Season Tickets to the Crew. I think the ticket allocation goes to Crew STH, and then some other people. What's left to the general public isn't too much. It's a higher chance of having a pro USA Crowd. They can't do it in a big stadium because it opens up more tickets, and Mexico supporters would buy it up quick.
That was a middle of the week Tuesday game. Guarantee there would have been better support if the game was on a weekend.
True, I took my youngest son, and we drove there watched the game, a cold front hit at the end, and we got poured on and drove back to ATX, he had school the next morning. Awesome venue. DD
Game day. Coverage starts at 8:30 on ESPN. A win here puts us at 13 points and at least 6 clear of the 5th spot. A Panama win @ Costa Rica tonight would put us 4 clear of 2nd place alone. Winning tonight takes the pressure off of the last 4 games as they'd only really need to win one more from @ CR, mex, @ Panama, & Jamaica. According to ussoccer.com, the mexico game will be played at the Columbus Crew Stadium. While I'd prefer it played in Seattle, I'm guessing the logistics of putting a grass field in right at the beginning of the NFL season isn't feasible. I'd really like to see as close to the same lineup as possible as was used against Panama. If Geoff Cameron can repeat that performance, I'd much rather see him in there behind Bradley than Jermaine Jones. Let Bradley run the middle and push forward...that's where he's the most dangerous. Beasely will have to be replaced due to the (stupid) yellow card rule. Edgar Castillo should be able to step in and do just fine. I expect a 2nd straight 2-0 win with Dempsey and Altidore scoring.
nooooo not castillo? whatever happened to the like of Spector & Cherundolo? I also thought Bradley would have to miss this game also?
Cherundolo is taking the summer off to recover and be ready for the Bundesliga. Spector has been out of the national team picture for some time. I think Castillo will be fine. That was Bradley's 1st yellow. Forgot to mention that this awesome week of soccer only gets better. The http://www.fifa.com/u20worldcup/index.html kicks off with the USA in an extremely tough Group A that includes Spain, France, and Ghana. This is probably one of the stronger U-20 teams in memory, but they will have a very difficult time getting through. All 3 US first round games will be on ESPN 2. First will be this Friday vs. Spain @ 1:30 Central
On ussoccer.com the game is listed at 8 CDT. I'd prefer them to drop Fabian Johnson back to LB and bring in somebody else in the midfield. Honduras will be missing their two starting central defenders (Figueroa and Bernardez) and one or two midfielders (Garrido and maybe Garcia). One of their forwards, Bengston, was sent home/left the team over the weekend. This is a game the we should win.
You're right. Coverage on ESPN starts at 7:30. Didn't realize what I was looking at was EST. I'd prefer they don't screw with the midfield too much. I don't see Klinsmann starting Brad Davis.
Jermaine Jones should not be in. This is a mistake by Klinsmann. Stupid stupid foul and deserved yellow.
Poor first half when compared to the last game. Chances are there but they can't complete the last pass. Honduras is trying to get under their skin and its working. Jones needs to be subbed for Cameron so Bradley can move forward. Defense needs to get its head out of its ass and quit giving the ball way in bad spots.
Much much better 2nd half. Goal was a thing of beauty. Defense was much more solid. They forced the action and kept Honduras on their heels the entire time. Finishing was the biggest issue. Dempsey should have had 1 or 2...including the obvious hand ball that wasn't called. Altidore might have finally become the player we all hoped he would be. Better with his back to the goal and better distribution. Better taking defenders on and using his strength instead of looking for the foul every time. Most importantly, better finishing. I'm not sure where he ends up this summer, but I think he's finally ready for the big time.
9 points in June; nice work! Would've loved to see Davis steal a goal there late on that loose ball just to breakthrough with the MNT. Cameron looked good again paired with Bradley after the sub. Just eats up ground with those strides.
Its amazing just a couple months ago we were asking why he was even on the pitch. I want to know what happened. How did he get his mind right?
There's a saying that you're never as bad as you think you are after a loss and never as good as you think you are after a win. I think that's applicable here. Jozy had a bad scoring drought but that didn't necessarily mean he was trash. Now he's on a good scoring run but that doesn't mean he's our savior. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. He's a good player that can be very dangerous when he's on but can also disappear at times.
