México - Costa Rica was boring to say the least. Why Chepo plays with 2 defensive mids at home is beyond me, perhaps we can ask that dude from History Channel you know the one with the crazy hair lol. Honduras - Jamaica was also slow paced but Honduras did their duties and got the W at home. USA - Panama was a good game, solid performance all around from the home team. Great games by Altidore, Beasley, Bradley, and of course the fans! Probably the best fans I seen in the States.
#(%&^#)$(*^)...!!!! CHEPO. You're pissing me off. ¡START Aquino!!! Well... here go... surprising Italy but not doing anything else after that. DAMN good game. Kudos, joto. Honduras, CRC, and U.S.A. all will pull away with games on the 18th. See y'all in September or during the CONFEDERATIONS CUP.
USMNT finally playing well as a team. One of the players I was most impressed with was Fabian Johnson. He played very well starting the attack and keeping control of the midfield. I cannot wait for the game against Mexico on September 10th. That should prove the true worth of this U.S. team.
Hey that is my birthday - what a great present it would be for the USA to win that game - hopefully we will have already clinched by then too. DD
So excited for this. For some reason, we are in DisneyWorld during the World Cup repeatedly....which is a blast because there are people from all over the world there. Fun to watch soccer with those people. May need to pick up some USA gear before our trip next June!
It's a joy to watch this offense have some success. When Altidore, Bradley, and Dempsey play with confidence, they are a tough trio to stop. Some of the balls the Bradley was lobbing over the defense were unbelievable. It was also nice to see Eddie Johnson get a goal in his home stadium. That crowd in Seattle last night was electric. They really need to just make Seattle the default home for the USMNT.
I don't think it's any coincidence that the offense was more successful without Jermaine Jones. With Jones in, Bradley is forced to stay back to cover for his defensive liabilities. With Cameron in there, Bradley was free to do what he does best...push the ball forward and make the opposing defense account for him, leaving space for the wings to create. I hope Klinsmann goes with the same line up on Tuesday against Honduras. It worked to near perfection. Jones isn't very good going forward and, IMO, is a defensive liability by constantly being out of position and giving up stupid fouls. Keep him out and let Bradley be himself.
Houston's BBVA Compass Stadium has not had a chance to show Houston's FAN power for the USMNT... at least not for a good match. They need to get with the program, these USSOCCER peeps. Come on, Gulati...
Actually I think Seattle would be the best venue for the USMNT. In Houston, we have too many pro-Mexico fans to wind us up in and out of the match. Plus if we played Mexico in BBVA, its essentially a Mexico's home game. Hate to be the debbie downer here, but we did just play against Panama who aren't exactly world beaters. If they play like this against Mexico in September, then I'll be impressed. And on another subject, do any of you guys rate Omar Gonzalez? I never felt like he was impressive in any of the games I saw.
Agreed on the PANAMA thing, but they did play a lot better. I meant BBVA for a high-profile match, but... yes, I agree, maybe NOT Mexico. You don't think there are any Mexicans in Seattle? The clearly only other choice for the USA vs. MEX in the US is Columbus, OH, where it's COLD as #(*)$^, mostly migrant and low-income Mexicans, so... tough for them to show up... the issue will be there. It's helped y'all in the past and I don't think they will change it anymore.
Until Mexico gets a result against the US in Colombus I'm all for keeping the game there. Would love it if BBVA would be able to get a match next cycle...maybe against one of the Carribean teams or Canada most likely.
Matches at BBVA don't favor the US team. It favors the Dynamo and it's players. Why do you think they consider the heat and humidity an advantage? MLS teams hate playing here.
I'm sure there are Mexicans living in Seattle but not as big as it is in Houston. I thought Colorado was a pretty good home field advantage too. Altitude and cold factor is huge.
Uh, I went to a friendly there against Canada in February of this year. You are right though it was not a good match. DD
