How pathetic! Losing to Mexico in BASEBALL? I could understand Dom Repub or Cuba...but Mexico? First it was basketball, now it's baseball...what's next? Losing to ourselves in the "World Football Classic"? It's lovely to know that most American pro-athletes (in all sports, really) could give a rat's arse about world competitions. They only 'compete' hard and all-out when they're making money for themselves. For country? Nah!
dude, weren't you born in the States?? do you think i would root for Ireland over the US? the alliance may be weakening.
That's the second time (first time was in an Olympic qualifying game) the US is knocked out of a competition by Mexico in baseball, and they did it in a Mexican man's team home stadium, so that was pretty cool if you are Mexican or of Mexican decent. This just shows that American professional athletes, in baseball and basketball, should be given a break, no more expecting them to not only win, but win in a dominating fashion, it's not fair. That's what we should take from this, baseball and basketball are not OUR games anymore, basketball is easily the second most popular sport in the world, baseball is moving up fast too. Let these guys compete and appreciate a great effort, like the Bronze the US basketball team won, every player from these past two teams were proud to play for our country, we should be proud of them no matter the results. It's too bad that it's going to take a baseball team losing for people to see this, but that's just the way it is, hopefully we can just root for future teams and respect their effort no matter the outcome. And another thing, this WBC turned out a lot better than I first thought, I was actually more excited about this than the Astro's run!
Chill out dude, if they did anything wrong it's buckle under the immense pressure put on them by guy's like you, who believe that we're the only country playing baseball even though it's obvious that we're not. Even Mexico who is not a baseball super power had some talented guys on it, like that second baseman, a bunch of their pitchers, and did you see the play their catcher made? Does anyone else think Bonds could have smacked a few home runs?
No way, excuses are already being made with them, but I like that some people are accepting the fact that the world is pretty good at baseball, and in a weird way they are using that excuse with basketball as well. However, there was a poll last night on ESPN; What was the bigger disappoint, US basketball losing at the Olympics or US baseball losing at the WBC? I can't find it no more, but last night it was 65% US basketball! I don't get that at all, there is no argument I can think of that can support that opinion, and the fact of the matter is the US Basketball team didn't lose at the Olympics, what they did was WIN Bronze, so the question was biased to begin with. In the end, the US baseball team loss helps basketball, but there is still a strong amount of negativity towards US basketball that doesn't exist in baseball.
I know it is impossible to do this, but I would have loved to see how this tournament would have gone if it was played in July instead of March. The batters, at least Team USA's, are still on their winter vacations.
I don't think enough people watched it to care about it. I'm personally pissed that Team USA couldn't beat Mexico especially since the only player I knew on their team was Vinny Castilla. I'm not surprised they lost, but they should have been able to beat Mexico, and Korea.
Don't forget Canada and mighty Jason Bay. Clemens is going to close out his career as loser to Mexico.
If you want to know if the USA baseball team is getting as much grief as the basketball team just listen to Jim Rome. I would say they are getting more. It's funny stuff. "Bob Davidson is the only American who showed up.... and he's an umpire."
