Actually, whey prices should have risen about 15% in the past month due to it being traded on the mercantile exchange in Chicago. Basically they have something called "whey futures" which have risen quite a bit over the past year. If your protein dealer is raising the rates about 100%, you should find a new store. The Nutrition on Sale on Westheimer and Kirkwood has raised rates only about 40%. But he said he bought alot of cases in preparation for the price increase, so he would not have to suddenly increase the price and shock everyone. Since the actual whey futures have risen about 15%, the manufacturer has been forced to pass the cost along to the individual dealers.
My type of thread. I was wondering when someone would start one of these again. Anyways other than product recommendations, the general rule is you should be taking one gram of protein per pound of body weight. So 160lbs= 160 grams of protein per day. Also don't take your protein in one sitting, spread it out over a few meals. Make sure your protein is low in sugar. You don't want to speed up your chance of diabetes by taking a supplement. As for type of supplements I prefer the fruit flavour supplements such as banana or pina colada made by Dymatize.
Like it says on the label, try mixing it with milk. It says it will "taste just like a milkshake" then, and it's not far off. I've been using Muscle Milk for a while now; it'd be my recommendation. Also, Myoplex Deluxe is good. I put on some bulk with that stuff.
That's why I mentioned ya. Other than vitamins, I don't take supplements. I just want to maintain what I have.
i use ergopharm whey protein isolate shake. Green Apple. Taste good blended with a banana, oj and water. In fact i'm enjoying one right now.
Thought I would bump this thread instead of making a new one because the same topics will get rehashed, so ya'll can just go through this thread. Amazon has a deal for 10.37 lb of ON (Optimum Nutrition) for $54.99 that I believe will run through the end of this month. I just ordered some a minute ago for $54.99 (free shipping). This will last you a long time if you are in the market for whey, especially since the prices skyrocketed recently. Use the following code at checkout: CYTBSNON which gives you $20 off. All eligible ON products Strawberry Chocolate Rocky Road Vanilla
Back in the day (10-15 years ago) I had great results with Vanilla MetRx & skim milk immediately after workouts. I thought it actually tasted very good as well.
For those of you suggesting Myoplex, that is not a protein powder....it's a meal replacement. I will echo what a few other people here have said. ON 100% Whey is the best protein powder out there IMO. I've had good results with it, and it actually tastes good. There's a reason it is consistently the #1 seller at bodybuilding.com. The double rich chocolate is the flavor I've always bought.
not a weight gain supplement... this is the good stuff: http://www.numico-research.com.au/intact-productconcept.aspx
That is exactly what I use. 12 oz. low fat organic milk 4 oz. Danon lowfat strawberry yogurt (made with splenda) 1 heaping scoop of protein powder Blended in a blender. Becomes drinkable at that point. And its 40 grams of protein, extremely low fat and pretty low in sugar. Anybody know how Smoothie King makes their Power Punch Plus? I love that thing and wish I could make it at home.
thanks man i appreciate it. i need some more of this stuff and that from what i have seen looking around is about the best price you can get. thanks again.
your right in a way. ON is the best (and most popular) for the money that you can get. and its typically when i have worked out over the years what i have used personally. BUT there are several mixes out there that are proven to be better. the problem is is the cost. the crap can cost $50 for 2lbs. of it. with prices like that in my opinion they can keep it. 2lbs. even only making one shake a day really wont last that long. if i had to pay that much i would just go to the store and buy some chicken breasts and egg whites.
I Was wondering if any one knew anything about NO-Xplode...i have heard mixed comments about it....it does give huge gains but what are the sde effects, or is it safe to take it with a lot of water intake daily ? by the way, i know no-xplode is not protein but this thread seems like the right place to dicuss it.
No-Xplode is great. A lot of people I know have used it and all like it. I used it a while back and liked it. It'll definitely help you put on some muscle if you eat enough and get enough protein because it helps you get more reps in when you should be burned out. Make sure you read the label and don't get it if you have any of the conditions on there. Side effects... it messes up your craps... and you take more of em...
