McHale was chosen for a lot of reasons, an important one being that Morey would call the shots and McHale would have to take it. More established coaches would demand more say and would probably voice their discontent about having the rug pulled from under them. Morey pulled Rafer Alston from underneath Adelman... it worked out fine. We've watched Morey evolve from a typical GM with a vision, but who also must appease the coach (bringing in several of JVG's guys) to someone who was somewhere in-between with Adelman (brings in Bobby Jackson, etc, but still trades important pieces like Alston) to the current iteration of Morey - operating at 100% confidence in himself. Full autonomy. It is what it is. Let Morey build the ship, then let the coach make the calls (or find a better coach) when this ongoing roster shuffle is truly complete. We've been a team in transition for a long, long time. The cycle is coming to a close within the next 2 years. We're about to establish a core folks, Morey's core, get ready for it... once that phase is complete you'll see a coach have more say. Until then, McHale has to prepare the soup with the ingredients his given.
