I agree that it looks like a video game. They'd better do some real magic in post production. Personally, I think they should mix CGI onto real footage. It would give a real look and feel, but would allow imagery that would be otherwise impossible
Pretty impressive stuff though it's hard to get a true handle on it without seeing it on a big screen in 3d. Can't wait for tomorrow. And I don't buy that it just appeals to a niche demographic. It's got sci-fi, adventure and action elements. It's animated, and while it will have adult themes, it probably will still bring in a decent amount of kids who are floored by the cgi. It's also got a love story. And I wouldn't doubt that would draw in some females, even with some of the more traditionally masculine elements. And it comes out in December. So if it gets strong word of mouth, it could very well put up some good numbers through the dumping grounds of January. Sure it's a big gamble..he's invested a lot of time and money into this...but he's just a handful of directors that has probably earned a free pass.
Just from the trailer, I can tell it's about this guy who takes over the body of the blue guy through some kind of computer interface. Then he goes and leads some kind of rebellion against the earthlings. Why not just disconnect him from the interface. done.
http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/08/21/panasonic-taking-3d-avatar-on-world-tour-this-fall/ Instead of offering a tour of its 3D lab as we hoped, Panasonic is bringing 103-inch plasmas and 3D capable Blu-ray players to you, planning to send around tractor trailers to promote its technology and the new James Cameron flick, Avatar. IFA and CES will also get the full 3D experience, with the company still planning to put hardware on shelves in 2010. It expects HDMI 1.4 and Blu-ray 3D spec standardization to have the market primed and ready, and while 3D may not be for everyone, we're sure those interested are just waiting to toss those silly two-color glasses in the trash to get with this stereoscopic solution.
