Just tell him that if he ever denigrates you or your work in front of coworkers again you will go Tibetan on his ass. With a nod to King Cheetah...
There's no reason you can't take up more than one of your options. I had a lot of trouble with my ex-boss. I spoke with upper management about it, gave them numerous examples, and even kept records of the times she would arrive to work (consistenly 10-15 minutes late). Turns out I got nothing out of it, they told me to shut up or get out. This came up again about a year later when we were discussing my bonus. They said I wasn't going to get one because of my "bad attitude." They also told me "we don't want to have this conversation again." I guess they thought she was doing a good job despite numerous people complaining about her. Anyway, I started looking for a job a couple of months before that bonus interview, and it took a while, but I landed a job closer to home, better paying, in my field of work, and much more laid back. I could go on and on about the upgrades. My opinon, even though it didn't work for me, talk to your boss and express your concern. At the same time post your resume on Monster, speak to some agencies, and start looking. You never know when something better may come up. Pugs
I forgot you are asian I like this but I can take it one step further. Show up to work like this Say he has shown you dishonor and in order to restore face, you challenege him to a kung fu fight to the death.
this thread reminds me of The Office....... September 25 is soooooooo far away ....... *office withdraws*
A few words of advice from a real American icon: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/knetbVx5A-Q&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/knetbVx5A-Q&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> (it cuts off a little short, but this version is worth it for the 70's Country Outlaw meets Disco style alone)
You could always find out where he lives, get some of your buddies, and go wrap his house. That's the least you can do for this unprofessional imbecile. I've never seen another co-worker rip into a fellow co-worker in a meeting like that. Why? Because that type of stuff is completely frowned upon and is completely unprofessional. That stuff is best relegated to the grapevine if it has to occur. I question your company's moral standards and leadership if that type of stuff goes on. Every company handbook should have blurbs about respecting your co-workers. That's grounds for dismissal in my book.
Wow, so you'll lets guys step all over you just for a paycheck? Where is your pride at? Self respect? Dignity? Sometimes its more than just a paycheck, like good working conditions. I say either let him know how you feel verbally or look for a new job. Whatever you do, don't just let it go. You don't want to become his personal human doormat do you?
yuantian, you have two options: 1) Let it go. People like him are beneath you. Everyone knows how much of a douche he is, and he probably hates himself too, so that's punishment enough. 2) Go Tiananmen Square on his ass. Get liquored up or do whatever to get rid of your inhibitions, then go whoop his ass. Make sure you've already found another job at this point though. Enjoy. . Whatever you do, don't just quit without doing anything. You'll be a huge p***y in my book then.
Go Manitoba Greyhound Bus on him. Ok, maybe not.. But who cares if this guy is a prick. There is always one person who is like this at every office. Just be an equal prick back to him. Like someone else you should have some witty comebacks to counter him at these meetings.
horrible advice in my opinion.... though the making him take a class thing would be some kind of retribution I suppose. The last thing you want to do is let HIS problem make YOU into a problem per the company's perception... oh, and there's the whole "using the race card" thing that makes this UBER lame and dilutes incidents where racism is undoubtedly the problem. Maybe he is racist, maybe not, but I don't see how this could possibly be a better answer than, say, speaking casually to your boss about his attitude and unprofessionalism being a concern for you, without blowing it out of proportion and appearing defensive about his comments which, from your description, are not the company perception. As others have said, dude is probably well known as a d-bag and making a huge deal by crying wolf about racism will only reflect poorly on you, not to mention what that sort of thing does for people who actually are facing notable consequences of deliberate acts of prejudice and racism.
Well that was the joke advice, later I told him there probably wasn't much he could really do other than change jobs. The other real option is to ask for a job review with the immediate boss and his boss. If he can explain what the problem is without resorting to the berating tone then at least you have information you can use. This could be done while maintaining a tone of sincerity and commitment to the company, but the effectiveness of this tact has everything to do with the culture within the company and is still highly risky. If you went to Jerry Jones about Bill Parcells berating you, you would be cut immediately.
Umm I was joking about the DDT but I sure as hell wouldn't quit because a guy badmouthed me. I would most likely confront him.
Lol true true but you still have to confront the beeyatch away from work and still get money while at work.
