Yes. Other countries win protests too.

Just watch in the future competitions and see what happens when lane violations happen again, and surely it will.

If the same thing happens that happened to the U.S. today, those countries would likely get another shot at a fair chance to qualify. They aren't handing the U.S. anything. They're just giving them another chance to qualify.

Yes...any single athlete or athletic team should be allowed to protest in the event of a violation and steps should be taken to make the situation right as long as it is within the confines of the rules. Why is that so hard for you to understand and accept? If an individual or team chooses not to protest that is their right.

If the Patriots have clinched home field advantage throughout the playoffs and are 14-1 heading into their last game, should Belicheck not be allowed to protest a call?

This is first time I ever heard of a rerun, have there ever been a precedence in running or swimming in Olympics before?

Yes. Again, there was one earlier in the Olympics for a swimmer.

Never said not allow to protest, just saying if it was a small federation, there would not be a rerun.

The other teams will file protest according to IAAF procedure, and some will be upheld and some will not...just like always.

This is little different, the race was not completed. I just wonder how does people in other countries feel about this.

Why do you say that? Do you have any examples?

New Zealand protested a gymnastics score and won their protest.

You're correct, they probably wouldn't even force a rerun they would just advance them direclty to the final like they did for Jamaica, Ireland and Ethiopia on Sunday. .

filing protest is certainly done too much and for ridiculous things, but this is about as clear cut case as possible. Of course they, as well as any other country, should get to re-race.

Good thing they finished the race though, because you have to complete the race to file a protest.

    pirc1, just stop. It's embarrassing.

    Other protests from this week:

    Men's 1500 m race:

    Women's 5000m
And here's the biggest one: The French team got the men's steeplechase 3rd place finisher disqualified to get one of their runners the bronze:

Sounds like their is a lot of bias coming from OP because it was the US that filed a protest.

So OP's argument is basically: one time one protest wasn't granted; therefore, the US should never be allowed to have their protests granted.

Yes, but I doubt Chinese will medal in either case, they will be last even if they advance to finals. I just thought this was not something that you have reruns after a race is over.
