I know all about that, but the point of stating “menstruating persons” is a blanket term which may apply to trans men, women but not necessarily all. Is this term even necessary given it may or may not cover those it was intended to cover.further Biological women may not menstruate for heath reasons, menopause, etc …in a lot of ways I agree with you
The fact eloquently put by @TheJuice . This person made the argument perfectly clear. The term does not cover what the intent was
"intended to cover" here are women who can become pregnant. I'm not a biologist, but doesn't "menstruating person" cover that category pretty well? What's a more accurate term?
Can a female who has never had a menstrual cycle get pregnant? Yes. Although it's uncommon, it's possible for a woman who hasn't yet had her period to become pregnant. That's because young women ovulate — release eggs from their ovaries — before they have their first period So again this shows the term is simply inapplicable in any context @durvasa @Nook
No dumbass, it IS about reproductive rights. That is literally EXACTLY what they were discussing. She used the term she used because it is the term for ALL people that can get pregnant. That includes some trans men. Use your head. This isn’t the hill to die on. If you don’t like trans people or democrats, you can find far better examples than this one. You look ignorant complaining about this example. There are plenty of silly “woke people” that you can use as an example.
By this argument, using the word "women" would have also been inapplicable since there are many women, including "biological women", who can't become pregnant. The real question is which is a better match to the scenario under discussion -- "menstruating person" or "women"? I think it's pretty clear that it is the former, your edge cases notwithstanding.
Wrong. Non menstruating biological women can get pregnant as well. Do yourselves a favor. Get educated and look it up
I will have to go with “women” as most likely. We know trans men transitioning to women cannot get pregnant, but we also know trans men can menstruate. That’s a fact …. We know women can get pregnant whether they menstruate or not so it’s pretty clear to me that women is the most effective response. You lose again
An issue like inflation, abortion, climate change, taxes, etc? I'm not sure I know what you mean by making this an "issue"? I don't know. Maybe he means that the full picture of what is happening on any given issue can't be condensed into a few facts.
The word you are looking for is female. Sure you could use “biological female at birth”… except not all biological women can get pregnant. So no.
Thats actually probably the best term. If you've ever seen commercials for PREP (an HIV drug) they do say its not meant for "people assigned female at birth". Easy and to the point. Speaking of annoying ****, am I the only one who gets annoyed when there's ads for erectile dysfunction but the narrator says "dont take viagra if you are nursing pregnant or may be come pregnant?" If you have ED, you can't become pregnant!
We are contrasting “menstruating person” with “woman” and why that word choice was used.. I don’t like that “woman” is suddenly a term that is marginalized. Regarding “female”, that is synonymous with woman…to be female is a term that essentially means not male. If you aren’t male then you are female. It takes a female to give birth. We see that in every instance of animal species expect maybe seahorses. Now to say menstruating person as the term that applies to those only capable of births is factually wrong. If it’s factually wrong than why even use the term?
