I think it would be awesome to see a woman playing in the NBA. I believe if anyone is able to play at the level needed to enter the NBA, then it would be unjust to keep anyone out because of gender, sexuality, race, color or any other ignorant and uneducated decisions. Who says there cant be players who are only sharpshooters. Who says every player needs to dunk the ball. Jeez, even Bryan cook has a job on our team. I see the biggest obstacle as being on the defensive side but even that is still only an obstacle and obstacles are there for someone to overcome them. Sure, there are uncertainties as to how players and refs will react to certain plays. Such as a woman taking a charge from a bulldozing player taking it to the rim or a woman getting a flagrant foul and taking a hard fall. However, how AMAZING will that moment also be when that woman takes it "like a man" and gets back up and brushes it off and keeps competing. I personally cant wait for that moment. Any one can post their opinion on this subject, but when you say you will stop watching the NBA because a woman is playing.... well you just sound like an ignorant junior high kid throwing a tantrum and perhaps your not really a fan of the game.
I really don't see this happening, obviously. The whole thing is preposterous actually. I doubt the best woman in the world has enough skill to make up for the difference between her and the "almost made it" D1 college athlete who just didn't quite make the cut.
Venus and Serena Williams proved no match for the man ranked 203 on the ATP Tour when, in an impromptu Battle of the Sexes at the Australian Open yesterday, Karsten Braasch beat Serena 6-1 and Venus 6-2 in one- set challenges. That was tennis, Basketball is going to be way more physical. Pro women athletes just can't compete with pro male athletes, no one is being sexist, it is just reality.
The problem will be not be on offense, it will be on defense. It takes strength to fight through screens and to not allow players to post you up.
I don't know how anybody could take this seriously. People think Steve Nash is bad on defense? And Steve Nash is a hell of an athlete. The WNBA uses a smaller ball as well. Let's see what their shooting percentages are with the regulation men's ball. Durability would be a huge factor as well - women are so much more like to have ACL problems. I doubt that a woman playing the NBA schedule would last. Finally, strength - you think Yao's hands are weak?
WNBA is not a profitable league and I don't think it has a long term viable future - at least not in major cities. I can't see many women making it to the NBA, but if there is a woman who can compete, why not let them?
A WNBA team would lose to any division 2 basketball team. Don't have the athleticism, size, strength, quickness to keep up. A woman playing in the NBA would be nothing more than a marketing ploy and everyone(including the girl) would know it.
I want to see the women put together their top team and the AAU put together their best under 16 team and see who wins.
I can see the headlines now... Ron Artest Gets Teammate Pregnant "We were just talking defense at Half-Time", Artest said. "I popped open a bottle of Hennessey, and one thing led to another..." The Lakers were unable to comment at the moment, but will hold a Press Conference tomorrow morning. There's speculation that Kobe may actually be the real father. -------------------- *Tiger Woods at the Laker Game. (Click Here)
man think back about that gsw team, they once had dampier, arenas, dunleavy jr., jamison, troy murphy. all come and gone.
we arent saying that its not going to be allowed. if they r good enough then they will play, but as of right now it just isnt close.
Never going to happen. If girls can't compete in Tennis, they have no shot at basketball. Let's see the WNBA champs play a Division 1 College basketball team and see what happens...
