They don't want Scola, they would want Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin... They ain't getting Lowry, that's for sure...
The draft/trade would be under this season's salary cap, so MIN only has about $3.8M in available cap from for purposes of not having to match salaries. Also, theDude, Scola's BYC status makes him HARDER to trade. BYC rules never make it easier. That's why the rules are in place.
I dont see them trading KMart either. We could get a lot more for him than a draft pick in a weak draft.
My scenario: Rockets Trade to Minnesota: Kevin Martin, Terrance Williams, 24th pick Rockets Trade to Thunder: Luis Scola Minnesota Trades to Rockets: Martell Webster, Niko Petrovic, 2nd pick Thunder Trades to Rockets: James Harden, Cole Aldrich We draft Derrick Williams with the second pick. Our team would look like this: Lowry, Dragic Lee, Hardens Chase, Webster Williams, Patterson, Hill Hayes, Petrovich, Aldrich, Thabeet Hayes starts till one of the centers pan out.
This is my post from the "Who Do You Want To Draft?" thread: Kevin Martin + #38 to Minnesota for #2 and draft Derrick Williams (only if he's projected as a SF) Or Kevin Martin to Cleveland straight up for #4 and draft Jan Vesely. Either one works for me, but I'd rather do the Cleveland deal, get Vesely, and keep #38. With #14 draft whoever is available out of Biyombo, Donatas, Burks, Jonas *crosses fingers* Tobias Harris, that defensive SF (Singleton or something?), or Bebe. With #23, draft either Bebe Bertans, or Marshon. With #38 draft either Jeremy Tyler, Honeycutt (if available), or even Giorgi Shermadini. There's another foreign big projected in the 2nd round, just can't remember his name. This is my fantasy draft. Hopefully it happens this way. Any thoughts, comments or disagreements? I'm still hoping that Kanter's knees check out, we get the #2 pick, draft him and trade him for DeMarcus Cousins. Maybe they'll take Derrick Williams instead? Whatever it takes, I hope the Rockets somehow get DeMarcus this summer. Flame on.
I doubt the Thunder would trade Harden. Celtics wanted Harden in the Perkins deal but refused to let him go.
Kanter is the most intriguing, he could potentially be an all star center, and is very skilled. Williams... very over rated IMO.
I'm hoping they get swept by the mavs and realize they need to improve offensively to be contenders. Scola gives them a post presence that they're currently lacking. You're probably right, but it would be awesome if they did agree to this. It's clear that Harden will be a very good player one day and I'd throw in an additional pick to get him. And getting Aldrich too is kind of pushing it, but what the heck it's my trade lol.
The Wolves would be crazy to pass on Williams and keep Beasley and Randolph. Those two have potential but are knuckle heads
How can you say Kanter and Williams are much better than those guys when they haven't played an NBA game yet? Williams is a tweener, how can you be sure he won't end up as another David West/Rashard Lewis/Marvin Williams clone? I guarantee Kevin Martin will have a better career than 90% of the draftees in this draft.
Rebuilding isn't about keeping the sure thing which is a veteran who has yet to even make a all-star appearance. It's about taking risks to get the next franchise player. Yeah sure Williams can be another Marvin Williams (doubt it...) but he can also become the next Amar'e Stoudamire. Kevin Martin isn't becoming a franchise player though, but Williams and Kanter has that chance to.
