    This death reminds me of the woman who had the same political views in Oakland but she was not acutely aware of the reality of the crime levels in her city
    Which is enhanced by political policy

    The 19 year old who killed her does not care about her or her views
    That’s the reality not an opinion

    he wanted to rob her and didn’t care about her life

    well unless there’s a change in character or behavior they should not be able to leave .

    maybe a religious awakening or something drastic

    But if there is no sign of empathy, letting a violent convicted rapist out is a bad idea

    Race should never be a factor either in these cases

    @Space Ghost @Xerobull

    as a futurist and superior intellectual 99er
    I believe they should do some Total Recall technology

    If you harm others the government should be allowed to erase your memory and ‘reprogram’ you

    it’s the only way

    I think you are confusing the concept of general policing with the institutions of policing in America.

    You can think of it in a software sense. Think of a video game engine or a database engine that was created maybe 2 decades ago and during that time there has been poor documentation and patch work bug fixes and 2 decades later it is near impossible to adapt to modern needs and add modern features because the underlying core engine is a outdated mess. It would be cheaper to start a new engine from scratch that adapts to the modern systems that have changed since 2 decades ago.

    The current police organizations were created because of the motive suppress labor movements and suppress poor black communities. The way they were designed, these two things are what the core design does best. And after decades, the underlying core reasons for why they existed in the first place still remain.

    So I don't want to "abolish the police" and then replace it with nothing. I'd rather after abolishing the existing police forces, replace it by giving these poor communities agency to train their own community members in serving there communities. We have ideal law enforcement departments. Where do they exist? In mostly homogenous white suburban upper middle class neighborhoods. Why? The cops are neighbors to the people they serve. They see a teenager dealing weed, they're more likely to call their dad because they know each other rather than create a criminal record for that teen. The current police infrastructure due to how policing was formed due to suppressing former slaves from expressing agency means that the current police departments don't exist to serve these communities. So ya, abolish these departments, and create departments purely from the population of people who live in the communities.

    Wanting black people treated fairly by the police isn't not wanting no bail for criminals. I don't think BLM has talked about bail. BLM is for black lives not criminals.

    Houston has an issue with this and it isn't specific to black people facing charges

    Houston has to vote out their city leaders
    Lots of problems besides obvious crime

    Time to hold these Judges accountable. Just because you vote blue it doesn't mean let criminals out free and cancel the police. The baseline for republican nowadays is just to be a flat out racist corrupt scumbag.

    It's a lose lose scenario for the taxpayers and middle class.

    Who is canceling the police? What city did this incident take palace in? Now let's see the budget of that department from the past few years. I want to see evidence that pol e force has been gutted

    It doesn't exactly reflect Baltimore's demographics but it continously has black leadership at the top and a large number of Black's officers which closely reflects the city

    Are these people qualified based on resume and accomplishments? Oakland seems to have the worst city management and they have an Asian mayor and black DA. Oakland is mainly African American too.

    speaking of Baltimore , they need to fire the entire school board , regardless of party , race , gender and age

    Law enforcement agencies are having a hard time with recruitment period. I don't disagree with more black officers in black communities but it takes a back seat to overall recruitment

    Here is BLM calling for decarceration and bail reform that took me 10 seconds to google. It isn't the only time BLM was against incarceration and cash bail/no bail holds.

    @StupidMoniker

    I don't support BLM so it I don't care. I do see that they want to eliminate bail because they feel it's economically unfair. I agree defending the police is stupid.

    I think some people are unfortunately unaware of how radical their ideas are

    As part of talking about COVID they talk about decarceration and bail reform. COVID was an excuse to talk about their agenda. There was no increased danger to incarcerated 22 year olds from COVID.

    So is there an elephant in the room? I don’t like it when a certain group has cornered the market. I’m all for diversity.
