Bima, if we get Iggy with Dalembert.. how much does it hurt our chances to resign Scola and Lowry in the offseason?
If they throw in a guy like Haywood or a solid center in the NBA then I'll do it in a heartbeat. Butler is a solid player he's just stuck in a black-hole of a team.
I definitely would like to see Butler in a Rockets uniform. I don't dig Andre's contract at all. He isn't as good as the GARM seems to think he is.
I love these recent trade rumors. Caron Butler's having an off year and he's still averaging 17 points and 7 rebounds and he's solid defensively. He's not a great playmaker, which we need more than anything in this world but because of the Wizards' struggles we might be able to snag some of the other things we value from them.
Totally understand his contract is somewhat of a redflag, that being said Iggy is a very unselfish player. If he does need the ball in his hands a little more, that just means we take it out of Ariza's hands as much as he's had it. I've never wanted to take on a contract this size unless it's a star of course, but I think Iggy has the game and mental makeup to shine on this team. I don't think he fails on this team so the contract doesn't scare me. If he was 28 or 29 I would probably not want to make the trade
Butler's a great player, but Iggy over him any day. The guy is injury prone and about to turn 30. We should only go after him if we're 100% sure Yao can play at a high level again. Iggy's only 25, he can be here for several years and just doesn't miss games. We cannot gamble on health anymore. Would you guys rather have Butler or Kevin Martin?
One thing I believe the Rockets might be able to do, if they make a deal with Washington is to flip Butler and Haywood over to SAC for Kevin Martin and, say, Kenny Thomas. SAC say they want a big man in return for Martin. Haywood is a pretty good big man that they can sign back next season at a reasonable rate.
If that deal worked money wise that would be great. They would probably want some picks as well with that deal.
I disagree, if you look at his PER he is right behind Joe Johnson and ahead of many good players at sg. On top of that he is a solid defender
Butler and Miller FTW! Then trade Ariza for a bag of peanuts. By the way howabout Crittenton? After this incident he may be shipped out of town. NEW YORK - Washington Wizards teammates Gilbert Arenas(notes) and Javaris Crittenton(notes) drew guns on each other during a Christmas Eve locker room argument over a gambling debt, according to The New York Post. Citing an anonymous source, the newspaper reports in Friday's edition the standoff was sparked when Crittenton became angry at Arenas for refusing to make good on a gambling debt. That prompted Arenas to draw on Crittenton, who then also grabbed for a gun, league security sources tell the Post. Asked by the Post about the confrontation, Arenas denied pulling a gun on Crittenton. "This is unprecedented in the history of sports," Billy Hunter, executive director of the Player's Association, tells the Post. "I've never heard of players pulling guns on each other in a locker room." http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...wizards_guns-022387022&prov=capress&type=lgns
Sac might be interested in doing that. But would we? Martin has had a shaky injury history as well as Butler. Martin is younger, but a longer term deal. Both of their games are similar. Neither is as good as Iggy at putting the ball on the floor to drive to score or make a play. I would be happy with any of the 3 in return for Tmac.
A lot. The Rockets 2010-11 salary commitments would start at about $65.6M, which should be fairly close (if not over) where the luxury tax threshold is expected to be next season. This counts Landry but does NOT count Hayes, Scola or Lowry. Basically, Les Alexander would have to swallow hard and take a MAJOR luxury tax hit if he wants to keep even just two out of three of those guys. My guess would be that (purely from an economic standpoint) Scola would either be let go or signed-and-traded in exchange for a future draft pick. THAT is why Morey will likely not agree to ANY trade involving Samuel Dalembert wearing a Rockets jersey.
Ugh, kids these days, real old school professionals like Charles Oakley know that you don't settle gambling debts with guns, but rather by throwing a basketball at the other guy and slapping him in the face. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/nba/01playoffs/stories/2001-05-06-sixers-raptors.htm
