What I remembered reading was that Howard tried to save mchale but couldn't - I believe mchale even mentioned something like that? Also some not so subtle rumors were that harden was the driving force behind the firing. Since he's the alpha dog he won. So can't blame Dwight for that one.

JVG is a Houstonian through and through. He has a soft spot for Houston, you could tell from his interviews and commentary. He is also a shrewd guy, he analyzes details so well during a game and I feel he's learned how the NBA has transformed offensively from studying many teams play on a daily basis. This team NEEDS a defensive minded coach, it's absurd how our defense fell off a cliff from last season and is a major reason why this team has struggled to win. I just hope Les and Morey do everything they can to get this guy back, can not miss this opportunity.

Please bring JVG back!! If they can't land him they need to try to pluck Walton or someone from the Spurs. Hell I'll take McHale back just please don't bring JB back

We will finally play some defense if JVG comes back.

Do people just gloss over the fact that he was 0-3 in the playoffs in 4 seasons as rockets coach? Twice his team blew a 2-0 lead including a no show in game 7 at Dallas. The last time JVG won a playoff series was in 2000 when his team was winning games by the score of 85-80. The league has changed a lot since he last coached. Basically everything that you loved about his coaching style will have to be changed due to the way the league is now. Which means basically you want a totally different coach than JVG.

I get it. He speaks his mind and lives in Houston but there's a reason why it ended the first time.

Shouldn't be a problem without TMac around anymore.

Sadly I don't have it. I'm not a troll though (clutch fans is my most visited site). I remember reading in the chronicle about Howard trying to save mchale though. The mention of harden behind the firing of mchale was a tweet by one of the national media types - but there wasn't a lot more than that. Perhaps someone can help us out on this...

Many question Jeff Van Gundy's offensive scheme and his longtime retirement years. But he was a color commentator. He watched games, playoff games and has been watching many good teams play. I am sure as a color commentator, watching the games from elite teams gave him ideas to be a better coach. I love the way he talks about the Rockets and how bad they are. The way he tells it like it is, tells me he has learned a lot and he is already a better coach than McHale and Bickerstaff.

Assuming we were to land jvg as head coach. Who are some good offensive assistants out there that may be available?

Andrew Wiggins got a lot of T-Mac comparisons when it was clear he probably wasn't going to be the next super phenom player aka Jordan or LBJ.

Andrew Wiggins to Houston in 2 years confirmed.

JVGs coaching career peaked with the 1999 NBA finals as Knicks head coach. Yet Knicks fans don't clamour for him as much as clutchfans. Has someone who didn't win anything as a coach in 4 years achieved godlike status anywhere else?

This is nothing like Phil coming back to the lakers in 2005.

Knick fans have been lulled into indifference by the decade-and-a-half of post-JVG DolanDoldrums.

I'm pretty sure they'd take him, although that Derek Fisher is pretty great!
