There was a time when most teams had 1 to 2 max players on their roster at any given time. It certainly isn't reserved for the top 5 players, just star players.

 

I see. Melo is certainly a star.

I still say he is being overpaid at 5 yrs/130 Mil. The guy has literally shown me nothing to suggests he is a championship level player. That said, I will retract my earlier incredulity. If Melo is really the best of the bunch, then he deserves the most money.
