I would not be so bothered if . . . . the lack of experience had not been used against Sam Cassell for years
and Sam was Nash's mentor .

    Recipe for disaster

    Shocking.
Not only ZERO experience but also have to coach 2 primadonnas and known malcontents AND being a "contender".

    This will go horrible.
If he wanted to go into coaching he couldn't have chosen a worse job.

Been a lot of former HOF type players go straight to head coach and guards that go straight to head coach.
Jason Kidd went from playing straight to head coach.

yes. And he was the worst coach of the league by a wide margin. So laughable you could even put a high school coach and do a better job.

The nets two stars made this decision to hire the guy they have a good relationship with. stupid af to call this white privilege. gtfoh with that

Steven Nash has an incredibly high bball IQ. KD and Kyrie control this team. It's that simple

No doubt, but Kidd isn’t the only one. Isaiah, Magic, McHale, Mark Jackson, Doc Rivers, Bird.
I’m just saying it’s not uncommon for “names” to go straight to head coach.

I'm not going to count him out like I did when he came into the league. He could be great. Or he could be out after a few months too with the knuckleheads he's got to work with. It's going to be interesting either way.

I say this every time and I mean it. Nobody can understand anything that comes out of Sam Cassell's mouth. He's talking with a mouth full of marbles.

Wow was my first reaction. Out of the blue.
Been really impressed with his post playing career. Heard nothing but good things from players he's trained.
Also a huge fan of the Home Court basketball training app he's involved with.

He's one of those guys that seems to succeed at everything he does.

Yeah, but rumor has it that Nash was possibly a request and has the backing of Durant and Irving. Durant was probably tight with him from his Golden State days.

I don't hate Sam and love him from the championship years, but I'm still not sure how many people want him just because "he was a Rocket!" and how many know how good a coach he is or would be. Same with Mario Elie. I love Elie as a Rocket, but I know jack about the dude to bring him in as a coach other than he can blow a "kiss of death" if we win. Same with JVG. Love him as a broadcaster, but Lord, can he coach a modern offense/modern style? Is he willing to? Is he aiming for 80-75 final scores? Can he get along with the new generation of player?

Give me some new blood... give me a team fun to watch... even if we have to blow it up (assuming we don't win it all)

Kind of weird as I thought this guy was more interested in european soccer than basketball nowadays.

I thought Stephen A. Smith was going to have an aneurysm talking about this today.

It will be interesting to see what kind of coach Nash will be. He played for Don Nelson and Mike D'Antoni, so I'm sure he'll be a big proponent of the 3-ball and the modern NBA style. He'll need some help on the defensive side.

He also mentored Austin Rivers! I get the feeling Nash would've been great no matter what. He just needed an opportunity and be injury-free .

    Here you go :
