If you can catch passes and roll to the hoop ... then if you are big and athletic enough thats fine. We've got PJ to play small ball 5 .. there isnt a 6'10" guy we can get that has his level of D and 3 point shot . We need an ATHELTE who's able to guard smaller guys from time to time as well as finish in the paint. Any ranged shot is gravy IMO . of course we cant have Kwame Brown level ineptitude , but someone who played like Gobert or Adams on offense is prolly fine , especially if they can bring screen setting and D . At this point we arent gonna get a big good enough to considered a top 5 or top 10 player at his position. IMO we arent gonna find draymond green. Our small ball lineup is still good , just not good enough to win on its own. We need a change-up the change up being a much more agressive around the basket frontcourt. Harden isnt gonna turn into a chump without 4 40% shooters next to him , though that may be his theoretical max efficiency lineup.
He was in a terrible situation working for an owner that was overbearing, cheap and didn’t let the GM do his job... the owner would consistently meddle and make things worse. Now Morey is in an organization that has professional ownership, had zero financial restraints and talent to be really good. Im happy Morey doesn’t have to deal with TF every day of his life looming over him.
It looks like we just went with the cheapest plausible option available. Silas is at best a gamble. Get ready for years of mediocrity where the excuse for poor play and a poor record is we are just building a playoff roster.
@foggy94 You are not kidding about this man. My guy needs to reassess his suit game in a bad way LOL.
Cheapest? Likely. Gamble? No. Stephen is a proven assistant head coach who had a decent chance of becoming a head coach with us back in 2016. He has a great reputation in the league and he built an incredibly good offense in Dallas. If Hornacek/McMillan are brought along, he is going to have a really solid group of assistants as well. We could of ended up with John Lucas, but instead we got Stephen Silas. I am very excited. There is not a ton to look forward as far as our future is concern, but in the immediate time frame, we still have Harden and we are going to be competitive.
Rather hire WILL VOIGHT over the archaic Nate McMillan. I am all in favor of introducing peel switches and hit traps to Rockets current Switch Everything. https://www.mensbasketballhoopscoop.com/will-voight-peel-switching-by-chris-filios/ But that is NOT Nate's system. Nate may have been on Vogel's staff with Pacers but his preference is old school man to man defense which is not only outdated but inefficient. https://syndication.bleacherreport....-defensive-mentality-to-lakers-staff.amp.html And McMillan insists on slowing down the offense as well specifically so he can set up and "optimize" his man to man defense. Do not confuse his tough hard nosed demeanor with effective coaching. He is the epitome of "play harder" without in game adjustments. https://www.indystar.com/story/spor...defense-game-3-against-miami-heat/3406379001/ Bringing Nate as effort guy, conditioning guy, play with more heart guy - then maybe. But Nate should NOT be in charge of the defensive system or in game defensive adjustments. https://www.indystar.com/story/spor...avaliers-nba-playoffs-2018-defense/521329002/ Pacers replaced Nate with Bjorkgren citing improving innovation, increased pace and building systems to fit players.
Roxkets only went small when Russ became essentially the starting 5, on offense. Morey/MDA never had a problem with size until Russ. Harden is capable of weaponizing most any 5 if he is willing to roll and finish. Morey/MDA removed the traditional big to maximize Russ. It's called innovation. Rockets became top 3 team after this change.
I don’t know how I feel. Happy he finally gets a coaching job, but what does this say about the rockets? Championship contenders or in our case pretenders don’t hire first year coaches, especially one that didn’t play in the NBA at a high level, if at all. Will he have the balls to challenge Harden or sit him when he decides to play 40 mins a game in the regular season? Offensive identity will be what? Keep jacking 3s I don’t understand this hire, unless Tilman is setting up trades for Harden and Westbrook.... I smell a rebuild.
I don’t really know anything about this guy, but what all I’ve heard the past few weeks on here is positive, so that’s good. I hope Lucas still wants to be part of the team. Clearly he’s been a positive influence on the players if they were pushing so hard for him to be the next coach. Maybe posters on here should stop dumping on him at this point.
Christian Wood Jerami Grant Jonathan Isaac Aaron Gordon Mo Bamba Aron Baynes Need at least 2 of the above.
