    Right before playoffs, and on a year when we are supposed to go deeper?

    What's the hurry? Either Sampson has had enough of it, or Morey/McHale don't want him around any more, or it goes both ways?

    the only bad thing is that no nba team was willing to make him head coach. we would have had some guaranteed wins next season

    How is this different than college coaches who take jobs before bowl games in NCAA football?

    The hurry is that UH is looking for a coach as soon as possible and if Sampson wanted the opportunity he probably had to accept it right away. As this team could conceivably go deep into the playoffs, that could mean the season won't be over for another couple of months...

    You change job because:

    a. for a bigger and better opportunity
    b. for more money
    c. for relocation due to family reasons
    d. you hate your current job/employer/coworkers
    e. you are strongly suggested by current boss to find another job
    f. any combination of the above

    It seems to me, that none of the first 3 reasons apply, so what's left are all negative.

    He's specifically had an out in this contract this whole time. Guess he's sick of waiting around for an NBA head coaching opportunity to open up.

    How do you know its not a better opportunity for Sampson? He wants to be a head coach. He can't get a head coaching job in the NBA and he's not going to become the Rockets' next HC.

    How much do you think the Rockets are paying him? I think someone was estimating that the Rockets are paying him 600k-800k per year? He could be getting more than that at the college level. UH needs to win and win now or the program is dead. Also, there's no guarantee that the Rockets will re up with the whole McHale regime next season. This is a 5 year deal with UH. It offers stability.

    Not really, he was black balled by many colleges and the opportunity just came up in a city he currently lives in. Take off the tin hat and trust me the little rods in your hand can't find water.
