They are pitching Paul also. There is no way they send Lin in to pitch to his potential replacement.

Pat Riley is team president, and Phil is an "informal consultant" who will be in Montana during Dwight's meeting with the Lakers.

LA is really stretching the relationship because they're desperate, and Dwight should be able to see right through it.

 

Hmmmm. I remember bringing up China as the great big market equalizer a looooong time ago. Most discounted it as a market that watched the entire NBA, not just the Rox.

Even if that was true, that's just far too much to be going through just to have a guy on a team. Basically hiring Dantoni as a lameduck coach and saying this is best for Dwight Howards own good is laughable.

It doesn't take all of that, either you have a coach or you don't. For some reason people in LA are acting like Phil is a miracle worker and completely forget about getting swept and all of that kind of stuff...or rather act like it didn't happen.

In short, seriously, its over.. they cant accept that its time to move past Phil Jackson

True, that's too bad. Paul would have a horrific rep if he leave LA with the Doc thing.

 

I think if the Lakers bring up being just as popular in China, Dwight would be able to hear Stern laughing from NY.

 

Canto is only assistants are his brother and mark Madsen who was recently promoted from their d league affiliates (the defenders?) I think. He doesn't have any true top tier assistants. They pitched for gentry but apparently he was seriously outbid by the clippers. Since when does LA let that happen? Bc they didn't want to lock in a high assistant salary. Lakers are minimizing asst coaches for D'Antoni in case they think firing him is needed to seal the deal. I'm with you I hope winning is what matters the most to Dwight and that he follows through with what he says. Nonetheless I'm still really glad Phil isn't attending the pitch meeting. Must have been Buss. Hah.

I am still worried about Clippers. I believe they would offer griffin and Bledsoe (this is probably the reason they pulled back from the rumored afflalo trade. And if I were the lakers, I would trade Dwight for griffin and Bledsoe in a second over letting him to to HOU. The question is would Dwight view a team of Paul, Crawford, Jordan (who would probably be traded) etc a good team? I'm glad the Garnett pierce trade did not happen.

 

Sure, they are in very different situations; just because Phil wants to be able to do what Pat is doing doesn't mean he is able to.
