Why would Lebron's decision (or lack of it) stop us from finally executing the Asik and Lin trades? We better get that stuff done asap.

This is looking like a disaster off season for morey if he doesn't pull this off.. He's about to not get bosh, let parsons walk to mags and we end up signing trash and be the 4th seed again with hardly any cap space moving forward..

If you are assuming this is the only deal that moves Asik to gain cap space, then yes....it does need to get done.

However...Asik could be moved to other teams or in other situations such as...

A sign and trade with Miami for Bosh (for example). Yes...it still needs to get done in the 72 hour window in order to match the Dallas offer to Parsons but if we just simply let him go...it means we have all the time in the world.

At this point, I'm not sure Parsons is worth blowing an opportunity to get Bosh and to lose our mid-level exception over. I don't think Morey believes so either.

I think he's trying to see if he can get Deng cheaper than Parsons. Like $10m.

We can't sign Deng. The only reason we can sign Parsons after Bosh is if he comes is because we have Parsons' Bird Rights and can sign him even though we'll be over the cap. That can't happen with Deng.

the real genius of morey is that he knew not to complete the trades for asik/lin for just this reason.

now he can match parsons contract, stay over the cap, and when bosh wants to sign he can do a S&T with miami.

Well, I personally think Parsons will definitely be matched. In the case that Parsons is indeed matched, and we ended up trading Asik and Lin for cap space, without obtaining Bosh, we would basically be screwing our selves. It's best to keep those two, and sign somebody with our MLE instead.

Why keep Asik and Lin? They don't want to be here and are disgruntled? Even if we were to keep Lin and Asik until after Parsons is matched, I highly doubt they would still be on the roster come the start of this season.

Asik and Lin are expiring, and sizable contracts, they would be crucial to any trade we would make try to make to upgrade the team, if we do end up missing out on upgrading the team with a key free agent player.

So if match Parsons, keep Asik and Lin, we can spend our MLE, BAE and trade Asik and Lin for upgrades down the road.

For example, we could sign Blatche to MLE and sign Nelson with BAE. Then package Lin and some assets for Young (Ilyasova, Anderson), and then send Asik to Hawks for Korver and future first (these are just examples), we might even end up being able to package them for a player like Rondo if we get lucky.

There for we add Blatche, Nelson, Young and Korver, a future first and re-sign Parsons.

If we trade Lin and Asik for cap space, fail to sign any key free agent, and then match Parsons we would no longer have the ability to sign a MLE player, nor trade Asik or Lin down the road to upgrade this team. Basically really shooting our selves in the foot.

So instead of adding a bunch of assets and bench upgrades like in the other scenario, we would only be able to re-sign Parsons and then sign player veteran minimums. We would have no sizable, expiring contracts to trade later down the road and wouldn't be able to make any upgrades to our roster.

    Let me tell you something.

If we strike out on Bosh, and Morey can get Deng for $10 million, then he can probably get Pau for $10 million too.....he should clear cap, sign both guys, and then match Parsons and go to war. Pau and Deng and the Pelies pick may be just the ticket for trading for Love. And if not, that's still a nice combination of centers and forwards that can mix and match very well for a championship contender.

What if we gave up on Bosh and Parsons and went after Ryan Anderson and Luol Deng? Trade Asik for Ryan Anderson...trade Lin for cap space as we have planned to do.. Make the same moves we were gonna make for the Bosh 19 mil minus the Anderson 8.4 mil (same contract as Asik). That means you have ~11-12 million to offer Deng as a starting salary on a contender. Anderson avg 20ppg last year off the bench before he got hurt and started next to Dwight in Orl. The protected pick we are getting from NO is only useful if Minnesota will accept it in a trade for Love. If not what do we need it for..no other star is available for trade so screw the pick and take Anderson for Asik. Thoughts?

    Yes, great observation.

Have we waived Josh Powell or Casspi yet? They are both unguaranteed contracts.

Asik, Lin, Motiejunas, Powell and Casspi salaries add up to 21.4 million dollars

That's how it's done ladies and gentlemen, lets all give it up to the wizard, Daryl Morey.

or if we can get a pair of picks from dallas for not matching the offer, then trade asik to the pellies for their pick, we can then trade lin + 3-4 first round picks for love. if it was a 3 team trade with pellies and wolves, we'd even stay over the cap and retain our MLE an BAE.

Woops I mean 20.6 million, 21.4 million is how the salaries if we would add Covington.

Wow 20.6 million, matches damn near perfectly with Bosh max.

We cannot get a pair of picks for not matching Parsons. The picks ain't worth crap anyways as Dallas is most likely going to the playoffs. And picks isn't the answer for acquiring Love. Talent and picks and the ability to take back dead salary is the answer for Minnesota and acquiring Love. Flip isn't interested in rebuilding. He's interested in going to the playoffs and locking down Rubio.

i'd like to add that asik/lin don't have to go to miami either. lets say miami doesn't want those guys. assuming lebron and bosh are leaving they'd want to tank.

    4 way trade:
    Rox get: bosh
    Pellies get: asik/cash
    Sixers get: lin/cash/rockets future first/capela
Heat get:pellies pick/motie/non-guaranteed contracts from rockets and pellies

the rockets incoming salary isn't more than 125% than their outgoing ones, so it works.

why would pellies and sixers do it? because they would do it without it being a 4 team trade. same assets going out and coming in for them.

why would miami do it? they are losing lebron and bosh, don't you think they would want the pellies lotto pick and a young player like motie rather than nothing?

so we never actually have gone under the cap, meaning we keep our MLE and BAE. i'd use the BAE on hinrich for veteran guard play (something we sorely lack) plus he's a great 3&D player. i'd split the MLE between birdman (miami won't need him once in tank mode) and wesley johnson (young, athletic, 3&D wing).

    dwight-birdman
    bosh-jones
    parsons-w.johnson
    harden-n.johnson
    bev-kirk

pretty sick. would also cost about $86M. would be a hefty price tag for les for the next two years until the salary cap is supposed to explode with the new TV deal.

he's interested in going to the playoffs because he wants to keep love! lol. if he's trading love its full rebuild mode. they would have completely zero, no chance, whatsoever of playoffs in the west without love.

they will be looking for young players, ending contracts, and picks.

NO, he's interested in going to the playoffs to keep Rubio. Love is already gone. A playoff run and exit in the first round (because that's as good as they can possibly do) is NOT going to change anything with Love.

Please ignore him, dude thinks the Rockets can convince Deng AND Pau, two highly sought after free agents, to not just sign with the Rockets but also agree to be shipped off to Minnesota of all places!
