What does GS get out of this? cap relief? I am not smart enough for this, but why wouldn't they just buy out Gadzuric and Wright?

He is being bought out if the trade is completed.

Got to admit, they aren't really getting much in terms of savings - they get out of the last two years of Wright's deal (~$4M per) and what should be a high second rounder. Possible that they'll see $3M cash for buying out Murph.

Personally, I'm somewhat surprised Troy Murphy has fallen so far - he was never an elite C, but a more than useful one getting 14-11 his last two years in Indy. Add in his sharp shooting from outside (0.400) and you'd think plenty of folks would be thrilled to have him on board. Not sure what got him in AJ's doghouse....have to assume it's his inability to protect the rim.

Agree completely - well, other than the fact that Murphy isn't really a center.

Avery had me fooled. I thought here was a good, old school coach who could come in and make progress quickly. If you looked at that Nets roster...it just seemed to have some promise...not necessarily immediately, but eventually. And yes, they are a little bit better, but at the same time Avery's managed to take decent players and make them worse. Brook Lopez, Troy Murphy (whose drop is striking), Harris.

I guess Kris Humphries would disagree, but it seems backwards. Take the players who were historically the team's better players and/or with upside and make them worse, and take the guy who's had minimal success his previous 5 years and 3 stops and coach him up to have a solid year.

    strange.

Good for Murphy. He's a solid player.

Orlando would be the best fit for him, IMO. He's the epitome of a stretch four only he rebounds at a high rate (which is somewhat unusual).

Exactly what I would think as well. Orlando is a no-brainer for Murphy. I would just question what kind of shape he is in since he did have a pretty bad injury this summer and really hasn't played since.
