Good luck to Landry. I hope he can regain his form in NO, and Chris Paul sending him Alley-oops should help. Much better than that ball-hog Tyreke Evans, anyway.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=6152024 Updated: February 23, 2011, 5:22 PM ET Hornets finalize deal for Carl Landry ESPN.com news services The Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Hornets finalized a deal that will send forward Carl Landry to New Orleans in exchange for guard Marcus Thornton and cash considerations. The move gives the playoff-contending Hornets depth in the frontcourt, but at the cost of a popular former LSU star who can score in a flurry. "This is a trade that benefits both teams as Carl is a player we have looked to acquire for a long time and we hope to be a big part of our long term success," Hornets GM Dell Demps said in a statement Wednesday. "Carl is a high character person that will add a scoring punch to our front court while providing toughness and the ability to make plays. In order to get a good player, we had to give up a good player." The 6-foot-9 Landry, a fourth-year pro out of Purdue, has averaged 11.9 points and 4.8 rebounds this season. He was acquired by the Kings in the middle of last season but has started only 16 games this season while vying for playing time with rookie DeMarcus Cousins. The 6-foot-4 Thornton is averaging 7.8 points in 16.2 minutes per game in his second NBA season.
With this trade, I believe Sacramento is under the minimum salary threshold by about $2 million. That is, until we trade Jeffries + $3 million for Luther Head tomorrow, so that we can get under the luxury tax threshold.
Sacramento sucks at making trades. I would rather have Jermaine Taylor start at this point (13 wins) over Marcus Thornton (who isn't as bad as his stats indicate). Am I overvaluing an undersized PF, or did the Hornets just steal Landry? If the Rockets try to sign Landry I'm sure Stern will match any offer. I think it's interesting Landry has been traded for $6 million so far and he's made about that much after taxes.
it's really screwy how the NBA owns NO right now. Mark Cuban rightfully ripped into them for using the leagues money for cash to pay for Landry. u gotta wonder if they actually had to pay for it themselves, would they have done the deal?
Yeah I agree with Cuban on this. This is just plain wrong. I don't know what the league was thinking.
