What are you talking about? Rox didnt release Ariza they traded him to Pistons for Wood.

He makes 15M nobody is gonna release his contract without a good reason as they will still pay his salary in that case.

ding ding ding ding ding. starting from the summer of 18' on, just track the list of what ariza has netted/earned. For someone per cf's that had no value, boy it's a pretty solid list

I’m talking about when we chose not to resign him after his second stint with us and he signed with Phoenix. There exists a significant amount of Posters on our board who think that was a good decision and absolve TFs stinginess.

You dont sign overpaid contracts now so you can trade them later. Its dumb to pay Ariza 15M back then and its still dumb today. Rockets were in win now mode getting value out of bad contracts is the least of their priority. Those other teams that traded Ariza around are not paying 2 guys 41M each the Rox would have been hard capped which is the opposite of flexibility.

Are you gonna say Rajon Rondo was a great signing by the Hawks cuz he will be an expiring next year? Gimme a break.

Morey is the one who decided Ariza had no value not Tillman. Morey is the one who released him without doing a sign and trade and got guys like James Ennis as replacement.

There was a time where Ariza was expected to be a franchises' primary option (Houston, back in the day).

Now, dude is out here getting traded for a 2nd round pick.

Probably more than you could get for any of his teammates from that year. Has to be the last man standing.

Leonard should sign with the Nets for the vet minimum. Playing for them is instant image rehab. See Harden.

Agree with this. This is a bunch of hindsight as not overpaying Ariza was a shrewd move.

I will disagree in that not signing Ariza and going cheap on the replacement for our "3&D" was Tilman's edict with Morey following.

The issue wasn't so much as in not overpaying Ariza, but not adequately replacing him during this window. If we signed a far more productive player than Ennis, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

You are the one who keeps saying Ariza was such a great asset right?

So if he was worth so much why didnt Morey do a sign and trade? Look at CWood he a free agent Detroit didnt want to pay and Detroit got Ariza and the 16th pick for him. By your own logic if Ariza at 15M was so amazing why did Morey let him go for nothing without at least a 2nd rounder? All Tillman said was he didnt want to pay money, it doesnt matter who Morey cut or what assets they got in return thats Morey's job. If you remember Rox couldnt keep Austin Rivers either but Morey was still able to trade him to NYC as a free agent for a 2nd rounder. So either Ariza at his new deal wasnt as valued as Rivers back then or Morey messed up, take your pick. Cant say Ariza was an asset and then excuse Morey not getting anything for him in a SnT.

I dont like the narrative where every mistake done is Fertita's fault wtf.
