He is miracle worker with GB's national team. The guy is a tremendous coach.

He isn't an upgrade, but I guess he will follow orders from Morey.

You need a significant DOWNGRADE from RA to get quality lottery picks. RA will only get the Rockets stuck in 14th pick and mediocrity.

My gutty guess' that the "player development" that Morey wanted from RA was season tanking by playing more of the unproven players. RA wasn't bought into that. And that's why the Rockets were rewarded with 14th pick in two seasons in a roll.

So you want a coach that is bad enough to allow you have lottery picks even without tanking. McHale well fits the job.

I guess Celtic ties are alright. At least Morey is tieing himself to a winning organization unlike the Texans.

I'm quite sure the hire has to do with name recognition, if Rockets hired Casey, or Frank, the Rockets would be under the radar next season. Now, 2011-12 Rocket's first game will be magnify a lot more with McHale and possibly Yao, so more revenue and more publicity. I will be surprised if the contract is close to Adelman, or JVG. I'd be interested to know who will be the assistant coaches, if the coaches are handpicked by Alexander, or McHale. I like the hire for the fact that he will have the fire to win given his spotty track record. Chances are good he'll turn his record around just like Larry Brown who had been successfull, until lately- numbers caught up to him. No matter who coaches, I'm excited for the next season, if it is on track.

Not sure how they are worst especially Mike Brown when you look at their achievements but okay.

    McHale's strengths & weaknesses:

    - very well liked/high profile guy who is respected around the league and is a proven winner.
    - not a very good GM and questionable tactician.

I feel like Morey might use McHale's leadership to bring the players together inspite of the constant roster shuffle. In addition, I'm wondering if he would use McHale's reputation and contacts around the league to get a lot of deals done and open moor doors for trades. In regards to KMac's poor GM record, Morey is not worried about it because he is the GM. In regards to KMac's inexperience as a head coach, it can be remedied by a top notch assistant coaching staff.

Not saying that McHale is the best fit, but just trying to rationalize things out if he does get the job.

Agreed. It's stunning. How in the hell do you replace a Hall of Fame coach with Kevin McHale and not see that as a enormous downgrade?

Mike Brown can't coach. He is like a poor man's version of Jeff Van Gundy.

Casey and Franks never had the experience or pedigree of KM so out of those 3 you could make the case that just based on his overall bball resume he was the best man for the job.

Yeah, somewhat lacking coaching longevity like Adelman but I like his intangibles, HOF, championships with the C's and a good communicator. I would have preferred keeping Adelman but KM will do the job but don't expect miracles even Phil Jackson would not win anything with the talent on this team.

Its not complicated. We're rebuilding, and the Rockets did not believe Adelman was the right coach to rebuild with. That's not a knock on Adelman. He's a great coach, and the Rockets would have been out of their minds to let him go if they had veteran squad that could compete for a championship next year. Those aren't the circumstances.

This move makes me nervous. I don't think he demonstrated much success as a coach.

OTOH, I think the Rox figure they are still building up the roster, and if they get there personnel to the right point, and the coach isn't up to snuff, they'll fire him and get somebody better.

I would love to know what McHale really thinks of Hill. Personally, I think Hill can be very good if he gets very good coaching, IF he wants it bad enough. With those caveats, I think Hill can be our center. Would McHale agree? We'll see what happens on that front.

If McHale is hired, by the pattern, I am pretty sure the next Star player we go after will be

Who cares about the coach. Get a LEGIT center and 1 A list player and we'll be fine...

If the Rockets are rebuilding, someone forgot to tell Less and Morey. They have repeatedly said the Rockets are NOT rebuilding and are trying to make the playoffs. Or are you saying that Morey is not a straight shooter?
