[Woj] Magic have decided to begin engaging in trade discussions for Dwight Howard

This is why he will become a Rocket (assuming Morey still wants him). The Rockets absolutely have the best package to offer. The only thing delaying this IMHO is the gamesmanship of the Magic GM.

Personally, I think Morey talking with Asik/Gordon has gotten the Magic GM motivated all of a sudden.

 

I think the Lakers make Bynum available and perhaps the larger trade with Minnesota and Houston that Ron From the G mentioned gets done. Why wouldn't Dwight want to play for the Lakers? It's bizarre to me.

 

It just occurred to me...

It's sad what the NBA is becoming.

Offense doesn't get you stars.
Defense doesn't get you stars.

Geography gets you stars.

The only reason he wants to go to the Brooklyn Nets is because of its location. He has no idea whatsoever if it's actually a good organization to play for. For all he knows, it could be even worse than his current situation.

This is why my favorite non-Rocket is Kevin Durant. He doesn't care WHERE he plays--he's flat-out stated that he loves the fact that OKC is a small market, because there's so much fewer distractions and such.

And sadly, I fear that's what happened to our current best players. We're not a team...we're a bunch of players on one side.

That's one reason the Pistons won the title in 2004, and why the Mavs won it in 2011. Their opponents (Lakers and Heat, respectively) were just a bunch of great players. The Pistons and Mavs were TEAMS.

 

I agree. But apparently he doesn't. He's never mentioned the Lakers and its such an obvious trade option.

Perhaps he hates Kobe. Maybe he doesn't want to face the pressure of living up to Laker legends Chamberlain, Abdul Jabbar and Shaq.

Who knows? But you gotta believe Mitch Kupchak isn't gonna let go of Bynum/Pau without an ironclad guarantee of Howard staying.

 

Maybe partial BS, but the new management had not had a sit down conversation with Dwight until tonight. It is conceivable that they had not made the decision to fully engage trade mode until they spoke to him.

And this is why the NBA needs a franchise tag. Otherwise fans will stop following teams and start following players. That's great for TV ratings, not so much for ticket sales. It's always been that way, to a lesser degree, but I see a future where two thirds of all NBA teams are nothing more than glorified farm systems.

 

Overreacting. It's always been this way. Kareem gave the Bucks a list of locations he would accept, based on location. Shaq chose LA based on location. Some guys put "where" first on their list. What's wrong with that? Only issue I have here is Howard wants his location and money before he is technically free.

But nothing has changed. Bron picked his place based on winning with his friends. Durant stayed loyal. Diff things are important to diff people.

 

It could be Kobe, but its more likely Shaq. Dwight may not want to follow Shaq's footsteps. Looks like he prefers LeBron's. Play with your superstar friends.

 

I for one don't get a hoot about what happens to Dwight unless he actually gets traded here. No point in waiting to see if he gets "almost" traded. Plus there's no point in traded for someone who doesn't want to be here anyways. Won't matter much as speculation, I'll just wait for the texts about D.Howard. I'd rather trade for other players and rebuild properly.

But why the hell didn't he just become a free agent this year. He could straight up sign with the team DWill signs with.

Something tells me it's still the money issue and he does want the extra money and wants to be traded to the team he likes.

 

Maybe Morey can pull a deal off quick and still be able to rip Deron Williams away from Brooklyn.

Its not THAT far fetched. If Morey pulls off the trade for D12, then that makes Houston MUCH more attractive to Williams.

Well he better get to work. He failed 3 days ago to get it done, and seems as if Deron is intrigued in returning to Brooklyn. Perhaps wants to start his own brand in a brand new city. All that can change if he sees the opportunity to win a championship here with Dwight.

IMO dwight wants to be traded to brooklyn so he can resign there and get his max contract. hes after the money and itll be hard for him to walk away from 57 mil. wherever hes traded, he will stay.. an who knows, williams may just decide to follow :grin:

 

i highly doubt he will stay... I personally would choose to go to Brooklyn for less money b/c Jay Z is the owner, Brand new Billion dollar stadium IN Brooklyn, New York, media exposure, endorsements, females, being in rap videos etc... > Max Contract & less tax staying in Houston.

 

He wanted his cake and eat it too. It's all about the Bird Rights and max money.

 

Barely. We are in the Twilight zone. No trades can even be consumated for the next 10 days I think. No unrestricted free agent signings or trades can be consumated until July 11. Meanwhile, teams can engage free agents, sell that free agent on their building plan, their organization, the player's role with their team, and a contract and secure an agreement.

Realistically, our chances of acquiring Eric Gordon....very small. Same goes for Asik. Chicago is most likely not going to let him walk. And it looks like Portland has already offered Hibbert the max. There is no way Morey is giving Hibbert a max contract. But no talk of getting on the horn with DWill.

Dwight/DWill could happen but the odds are falling every day now.

 

Totally agree about Kevin Durant. His loyalty to OKC is truly admirable and he is definitely one of my favorite non-Rockets too.

Too late for that. Most casual NBA fans already pull for stars instead of teams. Look at all the bandwagon Heat fans since Lebron went down there. I do think a franchise tag in the NBA could be interesting though.
