If he comes here after a buyout, no need to spend an asset on a big. I’ll roll with Clint, DeAndre and Faried at the 5. This may be shaping up well for Morey after all. No assets spent......Yet.

I have not seen this guy on the court for a long time. Would be reluctant to give up a guy like Capela (who for the most part has been pretty durable) for someone who’s always injured. We went through this with Yao already.

@Codman is this the #decreasethedrop you're referring to? We need to decrease the drop in depth lost last summer before Morey can pull a big move?

We've been lucky to bring in Rivers and Faried. If we manage to snag DeAndre or Matthews or both at the vet mins that effectively adds much needed depth back so that trading Gordon and Nene for a bigger fish won't hurt too much.

Good idea. Trade Knight, Chriss and Capela for Griffin.
I really want to trade Knight and Chriss. It does not make any sense to stay here.

Haha can you imagine if we add DeAndre Jordan and Wes Matthews as buyouts? Holy crap lol.

That said, if we do that I'm all in on trading Gordon/Capela in some stupid deal for Anthony Davis lol.

Talk about upping the risk profile on "new math" (using vet min contracts) right?

Trade Capela and Eric Gordon and 4 first round picks for Beal and Ariza and sign Jordan as a starter

Wait...is there even a guarantee that Mathews and Jordon get bought out though?

I would disagree, but I do admit that I overexaggerated how quickly they got their stars. The timeline I am counting is how long it took for the team to get another star after acquiring the first one. If we included tanking seasons then the Rockets would have been working since maybe 2010 instead of 2012.

The Cavs drafted Kyrie in 2011, and it took them 3 seasons to get Lebron and then Love. The Sixers tanked for a few seasons, but they got Embiid in 2014, Simmons in 2016, and Butler in 2018. Roughly four seasons. The Celtics rebuilt rather quickly by signing Horford in 2016, Hayward in 2017, and trading for Kyrie in 2018. Hayward has been a flop, but it was still a major signing. If it wasn't for his ankle injury he may still be a legit player. Raptors is probably a stretch, so I concede that one. The Wolves mistimed everything, and flopped hard on Butler but the fact still remains that they got Butler to be paired up with KAT who was supposed to be an Anthony Davis caliber player. Even Butler himself admits that KAT is supposed to be better than him. Wiggins was traded in 2014. KAT was drafted in 2015, and the Wolves traded for Butler in 2017. 3 seasons. You can offset that by the Wolves not being able to pair Love with a star though. Then we have OKC who lost Durant in 2016, and traded for Paul George in 2017. One freaking year. It's a miracle that the Spurs ended up losing Kawhi.

So, while I appreciate that it took Morey to get Dwight in 1 year from 2012 to 2013, and then CP3 in 1 year after Dwight left from 2016 to 2017.. it is still upsetting that they are both broken down versions of themselves almost immediately. We only got one 1/2 seasons from Dwight, and Chris has barely given us one. I don't blame Morey for that. That's just how it is. I can still be upset about it though. We're not wasting Harden's career on purpose, but it's happening anyways. I still have faith in Chris, but you're a liar if you don't think that things don't look gloom with his health issues, and other teams in the west getting stronger.

The best players the Rockets have signed in FA since 2012: Dwight Howard, Eric Gordon, Trevor Ariza, PJ Tucker, Luc Mbah A Moute, Ryan Anderson, Jeremy Lin
The best players the Rockets have traded for since 2012: Chris Paul, Lou Williams, Corey Brewer, Jason Terry
The best players the Rockets have drafted since 2012: Clint Capela, Jeremy Lamb, Montrezl Harrell, Sam Dekker
The best players the Rockets have picked up mid-season since 2012: Patrick Beverley, Austin Rivers, Kenneth Faried, Josh Smith, Gerald Green, Danuel House(?)

It's really leaves a lot to be desired when considering the competition. A lot of those guys only spent a season anyways.

If we're giving up Capela, Gordon, AND all our picks, it better be for Anthony ****ing Davis. Trading all your assets for Bradley Beal and a broken down version of Trevor Ariza is how you become the Washington Wizards.

The Rockets are also a top 3/5 (can't remember exactly now) in terms of record in many years, so, in one way or another they still managed to always stay relevant at high level, and not sure how many teams have been able to sign more than a couple of stars in like 5/6 years...?

With that said, i feel you on the fact that we got those stars when they were already not in their prime, i actually posted this exact same thing a couple of weeks ago in another thread, but i just don't think you can compare a situation like Phila to us, they got their stars rather quickly cause they got them by tanking for like 4 years, on the other hand we never tanked.

I actually think the Rockets and the Celtics are the only teams that are contenders built without getting a star by tanking.

Knight and a 1st for a rental of Mirotic would be pretty sweet.
