It's not a steal for GS. It's actually a lateral move. Losing Klay will hurt their future cap. A Big 2 of Curry and Love will never win a championship.
Edit: <strike>So Minnesota has to trade away their best player AND have to give up a first round pick while getting Klay Thompson and a late round pick in return? Meh (from Minnesota's view).</strike>
I was just gonna say Martin would need to come back in that sort of trade. Thanks for the intel as always
Hearing that Minny knows they will have to pay Klay a lot in the future, and that Martin can do close to what he does on the court for much cheaper. So they feel they are going for win now - especially with Klay about to get paid big.
The bolded is very likely true. And, of course, Klay Thompson is a good player. But I never really liked him as a back court partner with Curry. Get another guard who can handle the ball better and help the Warriors create on offense and I think Curry will play better. He's great off the dribble, but he's also great coming off screens. And wasn't their future cap situation pretty bad anyway? I don't think this trade takes them out of consideration for any big name FA that they were previously in line to acquire.

Curry/Blake Martin/Crawford Iguodala/Barnes Love/Speights Bogut/Oneal That team is SCARY. Reeko have no idea what your talking about, IMO Martin is just as good as Thompson, and Love is a HUGE upgrade over Lee.
Bogut Love AI Martin Curry Green Barnes Speights That's a very Morey-ian infrastructure. Maybe a bit more balanced (offensive vs defensive) than anything he's put on the floor in awhile.
what are you implying? That they won't pay Klay in the future and will holster up with this flip for a season?
Just don't see how you can deal Love and go forward with Klay Thompson as your best player, with nothing else but a crappy late future first round pick to show for it. That's quite the robbery.
The cap problems will appear when they have to offer Kevin Love the Super Max. They have Bogut locked up at $13 million for 3 more years. What a waste of money since he can't stay healthy. They also take on Kevin Martin's contract which is almost $7 million a year for 3 more years.
I guess I'm one of the few people that sees Kevin Love and David Lee as muddied copies of each other. Offensive fours who can rebound but don't play a lick of D' and are ultimately losers.
They will be a title contender with that roster though. The Rockets are going to need to make a splash this offseason. The West is so freaking ridiculous. Clippers, Warriors, Spurs, Thunder is a murderer's row at the top of the conference for Houston to navigate.
