https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...-Van-Gundy-says-there-s-a-lesson-13396005.php One lesson, Van Gundy said Thursday, is the value of knowing when to stop trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. "Not every move you make works out spectacularly well," Van Gundy said. "How many times and in how many businesses have we seen people try to continue to force a decision to be correct even when they know it's not working?" Van Gundy said the decision that Anthony will not return to action, perhaps awaiting a scenario that would allow him to catch on with another team in a role he would prefer, reflects a common-sense attitude on both sides that "'even though it's early, we see things are not headed in a positive direction, and we are not going to force-feed it.' "Every team can learn from that. Every business can learn from that," he said. Anthony's inability to mesh with the Rockets, and vice versa, wo;; be parsed from all possible angles in the next few days, but Van Gundy isn't prepared to assess blame for the situation. "I've read in some places that Anthony deserves better and that he is being used as a scapegoat," Van Gundy said. "I don't think that at all. The team is trying to do what it feels is best to win. What gets lost in this is that the Rockets are playing really well now. Defensively they have improved, and they're starting to shoot better as well." The most well-traveled soundbite generated by the Rockets-Anthony situation was Tracy McGrady's comment on ESPN that Anthony should retire. Van Gundy had not heard of the comment when we talked Thursday, and he doesn't necessarily agree with it. "Some guys, and I would include Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady, wanted to play if they could be who they had been throughout their whole career. That's one way," he said. "Then you have Vince Carter, playing at 41 on a really bad Atlanta team, but he is playing not to make money but because he enjoys NBA basketball. Even though he is not what he once was, he still enjoys it. "I get what McGrady says. That is one point of view. The other is what Carter is doing: 'I love basketball, and I like to play. Even though my role is going to change, I'm fine with that.' That is perfectly reasonable, too." McGrady's suggestion is valid, Van Gundy said, only if Anthony will be happy in the same role that he has held throughout his career. But if Anthony can adjust to another role, "I say go for it," Van Gundy said. "Milk every drop you can out of your career, because once it's over, it's over."
The Twitter reax to this news is like LOFers and Tebow fans crying bloody murder on the Rockets. Didn't realize the Melo fan base is that rabid...
While I agree, once the deal went down, it was risk-free, as long as it didn't turn into a lockerroom drama,,,which is didn't.... and we cut him early if not working,,,which we did. ...but, not sure if I completely agree with statements saying it didn't cost us anything. I could make the case that (in early July) since we didn't know that he'd sign for the Minimum, it cost us Luc, because we felt compelled to save part of the MLE just in case....(not to mention BimaThug was making the CBA "new math" case that giving Melo the MLE would help us sign him again this summer. whoops. Now, that being said, Luc's injury history was a risk, too. (And sure enough, Luc has only played 4 games to date).
Morey and D'antoni straight up lied to the media before waiving Melo lmao Well, at least D'antoni got his revenge
Melo was on the roster when MDA proclaimed the Rockets were going to be no worse than GREAT. You're trying to tell me MDA is so petty he isn't above making himself look foolish and tanking the season to get back at Melo? Chill out.. There is no conspiracy to get Melo. this is why @YOLO keeps sniping your posts.. gems like this.
Was surprised that there are so many peeps stll supporting him and feeling bad for him. Wasn't really selfless during his career.
D'Antoni on the Melo fit: "It’s a puzzle. Pieces are different for every puzzle. This one wasn’t fitting together. It wasn’t from lack of trying. It just didn’t work out. We just had to see how things work out ." D'Antoni continued: "The way we play probably wasn’t conducive to his game. He was trying to make the necessary sacrifices. It wasn’t fair to him as a Hall of Fame player to play in a way that wasn’t good for him, wasn’t good for us." Mike D'Antoni on Melo: "I just didn’t ever want to disrespect him and his career. He’s going in the Hall of Fame. You try to do the best thing, and you don’t make all the right decisions for sure. He was great, and we tried to make it work, but it just didn’t work out.”
U saying Melo wouldn't accept his role is something you manifested in your head. Zero reports said this. U literally created this narrative outta thin air
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/15/...ston-rockets.html?smid=tw-nytsports&smtyp=cur Morey has an arrangement with Anthony and his representatives to give them time to search for a landing spot before formally releasing him. The recent emergence of Gary Clark, an undrafted rookie, is believed to be a contributing factor to Anthony’s short stay in Houston. Currently on a two-way contract that the Rockets plan to convert into a full-fledged N.B.A. contract, Clark has moved into D’Antoni’s rotation. After Clark logged 33 effective minutes in a recent home win over Indiana, D’Antoni responded to the performance by proclaiming: “Gary Clark’s a player. He’s a player. Defense, rebounding, right position, shoots the ball.
not full transparency, Harden and Paul have to disclose all the info. GS says Steph Curry approves Draymond Green suspension.
Poor guy, what was he thinking? That he was going to be the focal point of the offense? He knew the Beard and CP3 were still on the roster? Right? Hopefully Morey can get some return for Melons.
Peepee games as @Ziggy would say. Agree with those who say waste of time. "Well aren't you glad they gave it shot to at least see if something was there?" No, not really. Sounds like they were delusional to believe they could change his game and/or he would change his game. "The way we play probably wasn’t conducive to his game." "He didn't fit with our style. We want/need more defense." Well yeah, Carmelo is same player as when you signed him in August. Enough with the bullshit. As much on delusional Daryl (who has chased this guy for years) and Mike as it is Melo. ... So they go their seperate ways.
