Sixers aren't trading Saric without getting Butler in return and even then, still might not trade him.

Lowe: I'd bet heavily against Philly putting any two of Markelle Fultz, Dario Saric, and the Heat pick in any package for Butler. (Saric is really good, with two cheap seasons left on his rookie deal.) Right now, they might not even include one.
And Markel Brown is no longer on the Rockets.

Exactly. There're a lot of overpaid mediocre/bad centers around, i think it'll be just super hard to move one of these guys as today if not getting back a similar player/contract...and Dieng's problem is his contract is 3 years long, not even 2 like Biyombo, Mozgov, Thompson, Mahinmi...it's very possbile you would've to trade a 1st rounder just to swap him for Biyombo or Thompson since they're are at least somehow useful (defense/rebounding/high energy)...

Im talking specifically defense and not offense.

    Not buying into hype.

    It's from watching him play.

He completely eliminated the most efficient, by far, offense we had in the capela lob.

On top of being able to do that, at the same time he read ackee top perfectly help off at the same time and strongly contest another high efficient shot, the harden layup.

He did this possession after possession while also having beautiful rotations, great man2man defense both in the post and the perimeter, and breaking plays before they began.

And this is literally just our series.

I have watched him do it against many playoff foes and do everything he needed amazingly.

The numbers have never been good at determining defense, ever... but still trying to even take into account the regular season when it's clear the whole team coasted is ehhh.

Again, you can call it era, and you can be biased to old time basketball. That does not change how dominant hes been and is.

Your faulting him for being born in an era, which isnt fair.

Not about hype, but about how dominant he has been defensively every time I watch him.

Thibs is a straight up fool if he’s resisting trading Butler...it’s a wrap, the writing is on the wall...trade him ASAP before u start off the season with the most toxic locker room in the NBA

And he lacks the wingspan to look ferocious. Super T-Rex that is.

So what you are saying is that you view this lineup as defensively with Simmons acting as a wing on D because of size and Fultz the PG. I think they prefer to have Covington out there for D and let Simmons harass the opposing teams guards with his size and long arms. McConnell is their 6th man and I think they would want to have Fultz try to compete with him for minutes. I agree with your replacement of Saric with Chandler. Saric doesn't play D.

Saric is far from untouchable but Philly is not going to trade him for Dieng. It's like asking us to take on Dieng by trading Gordon.

I think they have a lot more freedom to play lesser defending wings because of how good Embiid is defensively at the rim. Fultz will also take some playmaking duties off of Simmons quickly whether his shot is falling or not and that will allow Simmons to defend more yes. Also, look at the rest of that bench lineup,
Bayless, Amir, Muscala, and Saric are average to poor defensively and McConnell can be exploited due to his height. I would say that yes it benefits them to actually have one decent defender in the second unit.

NEW YORK -- As the Minnesota Timberwolves front office tells inquiring rivals that the franchise has no plans to trade All-Star forward Jimmy Butler, owner Glen Taylor had a different message for owners and executives at the NBA's Board of Governors meetings: Butler is available, and prospective suitors should contact Taylor himself should they struggle to make progress with GM Scott Layden, sources told ESPN.

The growing disconnect between Minnesota's ownership and front office has created an impression for opposing teams that a showdown between Taylor and Tom Thibodeau, the Wolves' president of basketball operations and head coach, looms as an increasingly plausible conclusion to Butler's trade request.

"The owner's trading him," one Board of Governors attendee told ESPN on Friday. "That was made clear. It's just a matter of when."

"He basically said, 'If you don't get anywhere with [Layden], and you've got something good, bring it to me," another high-ranking league official told ESPN.

Taylor declined comment to ESPN on Friday as he left the mid-town Manhattan hotel that hosted the league's meetings.

Many of those attending the Board of Governors meetings are convinced that Taylor and top team business officials don't want a prolonged saga with Butler, preferring to move him to a new team sooner than later.

Thibodeau -- who oversees Layden, the point person on trade talks with outside GMs -- wants to hold onto Butler and navigate the season with him. If Thibodeau is destined to get fired at season's end, those familiar with this thinking say he'd rather do so reaching the playoffs for a second straight year with the benefit of Butler on the roster. The idea of missing the postseason in the aftermath of a trade that leaves the Timberwolves devoid of a short-term, comparable talent to Butler, a four-time All-NBA forward, is fully unappealing to Thibodeau.

Meanwhile, Taylor has far less of a stomach for a dysfunctional season of feuding among Butler, All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns and forward Andrew Wiggins and the damage that'll do to the franchise's image, league sources said. The franchise's business operations want to limit the sullying of what had been until now a successful marketing campaign around the franchise's starry young core, league sources said.

Butler told Thibodeau that he would like to be traded before reporting for Timberwolves media day on Monday and that he plans to leave the franchise in free agency next summer, league sources said.

The Clippers have two max contract slots available in July. They are emerging as a front-runner for Kawhi Leonard when Toronto's All-NBA forward becomes a free agent in July, league sources said. The Nets' ability to sign two max free agents in the summer will keep them in consideration for Butler, but he has prioritized the Clippers and Knicks over them, league sources said.

In any circumstance, Butler wants a trade to a team that plans to sign him to a five-year, maximum contract that could be worth $190 million in the summer, and his list could expand based upon the Timberwolves' and rival teams' willingness to negotiate a trade for him, league sources said.

Maybe I have watched them too much. Chandler is fading but many here would have been over the moon to replace Ryno with him. He was nowhere near Ariza but he only needs to be better than Saric and just about anyone will do.

https://thesixersense.com/2018/03/20/philadelphia-76ers-how-much-issue-dario-saric-defense/. I'm not their biggest fan but here you go for a reference. DonKnock has good points and this is definitely one of them. They were really exposed in the playoffs and offensively he did well. He is a good Euro offensive player and in a secondary role would flourish with similar minutes. Lineups are never 5up5down so subs are staggered. He would still get his minutes and develop. Plus I don't think they are going to pay a guy $13M to start on the bench.

Yes. GSW pays Klay the max and will have to pay him the new max to keep him around.

In a situation where you are already paying CP3 40M, 38M for Butler is a great deal.
