Presti absolutely bent Tilman over on that trade. He ends up with cap room and a beautiful haul for Westbrook. I hate this guy.

We should’ve just let them move our Rockets in 2000.

How on earth did we get played into giving up picks with CP3 for WB?

Anyone with a brain knew this was going to be a disaster. who would have thought this trade would have destroyed the team this quickly though?

True hoop is reporting Westbrook decided to ask for a trade because of the way the Rockets handled the whole Covid mess. He blames them for him getting it.

OKC clearly won this trade but it doesn't look like we'll be giving up as much in draft picks as originally expected.

OKC was intended to get 2024 and 2026 picks plus 2021 & 2025 pick swaps. Due to the 2025 1-20 protections (and us keeping our 2021 pick) I see the likely scenario where OKC doesn't get either pick swap and 'only' gets 2 pretty good 2024 and 2024 picks. But by 2024 I bet we're good enough to make this not as special by scraping into the bottom of the playoffs.

Yup, agreed. The gem of this trade was the 2021 pick. Unfortunate that it took so much to give up Paul (and that draft picks couldn't come in rather than going out).

    BUT a few things:
    • The 2024/2026 picks likely won't be top-5/10 picks so not a major loss.
    • The Nets picks may have a higher chance of being top-5/10...not coincidentally in 2024/2026 (so it's almost like Houston traded their 2024/26 picks for Brooklyn's). Plus the pick swaps in 2023, 2025, and 2027 could be really good.
    • "What could have been" with the Paul trade is a moot argument since, yes it led to the blowup of the team, but that was inevitable it seemed.
    • Maybe Harden stays through this year and they're out of the lottery, but get bounced in the first round, then Harden still demands a trade.
    • The franchise got a head start to rebuilding with the addition of Porter and maintaining the 2021 pick.
    • They have a brighter outlook now than just a few weeks ago. There's flexibility to improve the roster either through development or trading quality pieces like Wood or Gordon, even with the dead weight of John Wall's contract.
    • This would be a bonus: John Wall could have a breakout season like Paul did in Oklahoma City and could subsequently be traded for positive assets or more picks.
In the end what matters is not having so many picks (like with OKC), but getting lucky with high picks -- and getting the pick right. If Houston strikes gold with Green, Mobley (or even Cunningham if he somehow becomes available), then in the end it could be argued that Houston "won" the Westbrook trade, thanks in large part of pure luck.

Ha, it worked out. Could be doom and gloom on this site.

Stone & co given a great mulligan. Now they gotta deliver. Better to be at #2 than #3 or out of the top 4!

I love how you say "bent Tilman over" instead of "bent Morey over" because we all know that you're right.

Not a chance in hell 0-27 happens if Paul is healthy. Look at how he stabilized the Suns tonight when the Clippers went on the 10-0 run in the third quarter. We would’ve won the championship if his hamstring had not gotten injured.

I wonder how Harden really feels after he sees the guy who he was teammates with and drove him out of town going to the NBA finals and he again is at home for another season. We could have had something special if we kept the team intact, especially this year with no Warriors and no Lakers.
