It's funny because Rivers went from enemy to loved on his first game with us (speaking for myself)

Maaaaaan, I agree with you in regards to upgrading the four position...... but Kevin Love???

    Eh, I don't know:

1.) how much we'd have to give up to trade for him
2.) how long we'll actually have him in our lineup throughout the season (playoffs included)

Great move. Thought he was a goner due to not being able to pay him. He was one of our best players against the warriors in the playoffs and he took way less money than he could have made. Never thought I'd say it but he could potentially make my Houston heroes list

This also gives us early Bird Rights with him next year if he opts out.

uhhh...he won't win the narrative (i.e. he won't get those guys you listed) but he might win over smart basketball people by using remaining exceptions and vet mins to fill out the roster with bargains.

Damn! Getting a player of Rivers' caliber, who fits our system quite well, for the minimum, is an absolutely brilliant move. At his age I'll almost guarantee he'll opt out to seek better money a year from now, and I'm completely OK with that because he cut us an absolute sweetheart deal here.

Should be able to offer him about $8.4M per year over 4 years next season.

As a 7-year NBA vet, how has he not always working on it, especially the direction the league has been going? It's better that it's the league minimum, but I just don't trust him to produce a big shot when it's needed. I know a lot of well respected posters like yourself disagree, but I don't feel he a championship backup pg, and that's the goal.

    Absolutely this.

Also, Rivers basically did the *wink wink* sign a Vet Min to get Early Bird Rights for next season and a bigger pay day. This is what the Rockets tried to do with Moute but he would not play ball.

I’m with you absolutely loved it the minute we got him last year.

Austin Rivers is the fake Houstonian we need & deserve unlike that other fake Houstonian or Tomballian or Heatian or whatever the hell the calls himself. ;)

    Warmly welcome back Austin Rivers!

So, what happened to that 3-point shooting/making rebounding, energetic Manimal of early days to the left-in-moth-balls KF of the latter days?
