"Even if Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray are off the table in any trade discussions, Denver can make a compelling argument including veterans who can help win now (Paul Millsap and Mason Plumlee)" This made me laugh.
If for no other reasons than anger and spite, I don‘t see the Pelicans trading Davis to the Lakers by next Thursday’s trade deadline. Furthermore, the Pelicans are better served to wait until the offseason when Boston can join the fray.
This is also false. The Nuggets would move anyone on their roster other than Jokic without pause, and likely would move Jokic if necessary as well. The Nuggets have been seeking a star player for sometime and it is the worst kept secret in the league. They were pushing for Kyrie at one point as well.
Well there are a couple of trains of thought on this point. First, the Pelicans may want to move Davis now so that they can improve their potential to tank for a lottery pick. That is to say they could move Davis and Mirotic and Moore for assets, and couple that with what would be their own assets (lottery pick) and then go into the lottery again in 2019-2020 and possibly be in a position to compete. It could happen, and it is also possible ownership wants the divorce now, not 6 months from now. Personally I would wait and see. Teams like Boston and Philadelphia are going to be more open to making deals once they come up short in the playoffs.
Wow, even Jokic? Can't lie here, i would be shocked if they would move Jokic for Davis. On Murray yeah, i don't see how he's off the table here, i'm sure they would drive him to NOLA if they can get Davis by adding him to the package.
Houston along with other teams need to make crazy offers to ensure LA or whomever is in the mix guts their team in order to get Davis. As long as Bron and AD are surrounded by DLeaguers and 36 year old veterans I can live with that! Worst case scenario, Houston winds up with AD (oh no!!! -sarcasim-) But I trust Daryl more than just about any other GM to find players to play with Harden/CP3/AD. Although it should'nt be that hard to convince dudes to come play here with those three.
I could see the Pelicans making a deal by Feb. 7 with a team other than the Lakers. Denver could decide to push all in for Davis this week, Philadelphia may decide they don’t think the Butler experiment is working and would rather gamble on Davis in a three-way deal, or even the Knicks could decide that they are willing to part with Porzingis in a deal for Davis. But I don’t see the Lakers getting Davis by next week. Not with the way things have transpired.
Do not overlook the people involved in this. Demps is so incompetent that recently David Stern publicly called him out. The Pelicans owner only got the team like a year ago and doesnt give a crap. The president is someone more involves with the Saints. Noone cares.
This. The Pelicans are going to be sold at some point and moved. Stern was VERY nasty is discussing Demps, I believed he called him an "idiot". The league front office wants the Lakers to be relevant and want LeBron James to get as much coverage as possible. It just isn't shaping up well.
Well why would anyone want to go to Chicago, hometown or not? As long as teflon John & teflon Gar keep their jobs...
[Ganguli] Rich Paul, who also represents LeBron James, has not given the Pelicans a list of preferred destinations, but he will inform interested teams whether Davis would sign an extension with them.
Don’t listen to Stan. It’s just a van Gundian rant for Thibs like any monk from the Isle of Gundy would sing
Exactly. No sense settling for whatever inferior package the Lakers are sending now when, at worst, you can get that package later. Hell, if Davis decides to shut down the season that might be even better for everybody. They can tank and he can shop for houses in LA .
