Here's how I would prioritize moving that roster if I were their GM: 1. Moving John Wall 2. Moving Otto Porter 3. Moving John Wall 4. Moving Bradley Beal 5. Moving John Wall 6. Moving Dwight Howard 7. Moving John Wall 8. Moving Ian Mahimi 9. Moving John Wall
If you're the GM for any of the other teams in the league, what's the most you'd give, any player on any other team, to get Bradley Beal? I honestly don't know. I feel like it should be a lot. Obviously he's the guy the Wizards would most prefer to keep though.
Who the hell is lining up to take John Wall? That's Blake Griffin all over again except worse. (Clippers actually got decent value in return) Griffin 2017-18: $29,727,900 2018-19: $32,088,932 2019-20: $34,449,964 2020-21: $36,810,996 2021-22: $38,957,028 (Player Option) Wall 2018-19: $19,169,800 2019-20: $38,150,000 2020-21: $41,202,000 2021-22: $44,254,000 2022-23: $47,306,000 (Player Option) I get the right to pay John Wall forty-****ing-million the next four years? Nah, I'm good. I'll need Daryl's four firsts. No, I don't want the Rockets to acquire Wall. Expiring Austin Rivers($12,650,000) Markieff Morris($8,600,000) Jason Smith($5,450,000) Kelly Oubre(RFA; $4,485,665 QO) Tomas Satoransky(RFA; $3,911,484 QO) Jeff Green($1,512,601) Thomas Bryant(RFA; $1,818,486 QO) General Ass Soreness aka Dwight Howard has a player option($5,603,850) Troy Brown Jr. on rookie deal Devin Robinson & Jordan McRae on 2-way deals Beal is really their only positive contract & ideally you keep him. I know CF loves Otto Porter but not everyone is taking that contract. Do you move Beal to get off Mahinmni or Porter? That's a lot of salary going out & to try to match. Ian Mahinmi: 2018-19: $15,944,154 2019-20: $15,450,051 Brad Beal: 2018-19: $25,434,262 2019-20: $27,093,018 2020-21: $28,751,774 Otto Porter: 2018-19: $26,011,913 2019-20: $27,250,576 2020-21: $28,489,239
Would Morey offer up 4 1sts for Beal? I personally think that's a steep price because he's not a two-way player like Butler but I wouldn't be mad if he did and we got Beal in return.
I would not. I offer four firsts for the likes of Kawhi or AD but not for good all-stars like Beal. (I was against four firsts for Butler.)
@justtxyank suggested Gordon, Nene and picks for Beal which I would be all for considering Beal is a better version of Gordon. The rub is that getting Beal doesn't address out defense. But I guess In Gary Clark We Trust?
I don't think we're going to offer 4 picks for Beal either, maybe Gordon and one/two 1st rounders, i hate to say it but i wasn't exactly expecting Gordon to resign here in the first place, after we tried to trade him for Butler well, i'm even more inclined to think he'll leave so, i would be ok with that. Butler is better obviously, but Beal will at least cost us less, and he's a less risky fit than Jimmy imo, basically a better and younger Gordon locked in for three years which would turn into a terrific asset for any superstar becoming eventually available in one/two years.
I can't put myself in the mind of the GM sitting down to sign that John Wall contract. That just has red flags all over it. These NBA contracts have been getting a little irrational over the last couple of years. There's this idea that "some guys are worth far more than the max" (which may be true, but it's very few of them) so that's causing a lot of 2nd tier players to swell up to way too much of a salary cap hit. Every all-star player is not worth max. Yet every all-star player thinks they're worth max and will find a dumb GM who will get them close. It's a weird market.
About time we saw such an article. If we could get in on Beal.........Decent defender, not great. Really good shooter. Not that I think it'll happen. John Wall's contract is painful. These teams always feel obligated to (over)pay players. But they fear losing an All Star and finding themselves in the wilderness, then wind up in another sort of wilderness....that of salary cap hell. I do sympathize with Dwight a little. Not long ago, I was dealing with some sort of piraformis syndrome or something like that. Not fun. As they say, a real pain in the a**.
Going through the Trade Machine, and here are some fun deals that the Wizards could do: John Wall to the Clippers Clippers get John Wall Wizards get SGA, Gortat, and maybe a pick It would be funny to see Gortat go back to the Wizards, and Washington would get a good young PG in return. Clippers are better than I thought they would be and need a star to lure in FA this year. A back-court of Wall, PatBev, and Sweet Lou would be pretty good. Bradley Beal to the Raptors Raptors get Bradley Beal Wizards get Danny Green, Norman Powell, CJ Miles, and a 1st round pick Raptors should go all in this season since they might not re-sign Kawhi. Adding Beal would strengthen their chances of winning the East.
