If this trade had gone through we would have been able to officially start the T-Will expirament facilitating to Gasol and Nene and would have been unstoppable defensively.. I liked the trade.. It was essentially K-Mart for Nene and Scola & Dragic for Pau.. I wish it would be tweaked and passed soon so we can still land Nene..

Well the Scola,Artest, and T-Mac trade left DM out of the loop since GM's were not going to take the chance of humilation. DM has no choice but to make these moves to make any at all.

That's not a bad thing. Everyone wants to deal with someone who's desperate to get a deal done.

True, but they know who to call first. Today, Morey showed teams he is willing to make a good deal for the right player. I believe this trade raised the stock of both Scola and Martin. Remember what we acquired Martin for? Recall that Scola's paycheck is rising as well as his age.

I think this trade has McHale written all over it. He told Les he needed a quality 7 footer, and Morey is just doing his job. Morey cares more about his assets than anyone here.

It's essentially nothing, NENE was not close to a done deal. We would be left with a cruddy team with a 31 year old second option if Nene signed somewhere else.

Fine. I hope they do. We can always say 'no.'

When you're playing poker with non-expert players, it's smart to lt them catch you bluffing early, because then they'll stay in the pot longer when you really have something.

I'm not saying that's what this is, but if Morey gets lots more deals because ppl think he can be had, how are we losing, if he turns down the deals that don't help us?

It also shows that McHale isn't too keen on having two of his starting five players be defensive liabilities.

This is what I was thinking. Morey is desperate to make a trade.

What I find amusing is that Scola, Martin weren't considered valuable in the eyes of sports writers and now they talking about how horrendous this deal was for us!! Are you for real? I love Scola and Martin but I would take Gasol/Nene everytime.
You could be right and I hope you are because Morey is working hard trying to improve this team, if I were him I'd be fuming at this veto.

I agree. This hurts Morey's negotiating power.

I think we will. Obviously, that's Morey's goal, and he's willing to change the team pretty dramatically and give up some key pieces to make it happen. It wouldn't be surprising if the Gasol trade was modified and revived. And if it is, you can bet other moves would follow quickly.

So you're for being the 16th best team in the league again with Scola and Martin running the show? Pau is an obvious upgrade in talent and is a 2 way player, something that neither Martin nor Scola are.

I for one would love for the EIGHT players on our roster under the age of 25 to get more playing time as well. The trade also frees up an additional 3 million in cap room to sign a free agent. Aside from giving up the NY pick, this trade can only do good things for our future.

We flip 2 primarily offensive players into a top 15 talent with potential to sign a center in free agency and improve our younger players by actually playing them.

Yeah, that is why I was ok with it, even though we were giving up my favorite player in Scola.

I have no problem with trading Martin and Scola, but I think it's a stupid move to trade them for a 31 year old with a big contract who's proven he can't be the number one option.

If he was younger, or had a better track record, or we had a realistic chance of getting Howard or Nene, then I'd support the deal, but otherwise IMO we're better off not trading the two of them for the sake of saying that we traded them.
