Is there a Tayshaun Prince in this draft?

Rox could use a tall, long, guy who can guard PG, SG, SF.

you all may think i am nuts, or out of my mind, say what you will, but the rockets need a point guard, and i really wish they would pick up Fili Rivera, from the university of Texas el paso (UTEP), he is one of the best players i have seen come from utep and would be a great addition, he would be unbelievable with tmac in the open floor. I have to be honest, i havent seen anyone with his court vision, or awareness in a long time, the only thing he must work on is his jump shot a bit....

Interesting comments and points of view. There might not be many (or any we'll see) superstars in this draft like James, Wade, Amare, and Yao. However, I think this is a very deep draft with talented players.

He seems to be one of our favorites. IF DW leaves via trade(likely), Garcia and JB + BS + MJ would nice to have. Along with Spree(also likely) that would give us a nice rotation on the perimeter.

I would have to go with Warrick if he's still on the board. Reason being that I can't stand to watch another season of watching our guys stand on the 3pt line and shoot. I want to see some drives and athleticism going to the rack and that's his game. We need to cause defensive match-up problems. I could easily see a back court of Sura/TMac/Warrick for the next few years.

If he's gone then it's really a tossup with Garcia/Turiaf.

It would be nice if the Rockets could get a nice swingman to spell McGrady when he is on the bench. There look to be a couple of long lean guard/forwards in the draft, but I'd really like to see the four spot shored up. I like Turiaf and Simien, I've gone cold on May, but the one prospect that intrigues me is Tiago Splitter.

From a couple of scouting reports I've read and a good source, Splitter plays tough, he is a foreigner who likes contact, he has played against older competition since he was 17. I think he could be the banger down low that we're looking for to help out Yao and he also has good range on his jumper and a variety of post moves, although he needs to work on his footwork. Of course there may be a good possibility that he will not be there when we pick at 24, but he could go from mid-to-late first round.

i think if joey graham slips this far we take him.

garcia seems to be the best fit and my #1 choice. fernandez, hodge, diogu, turiaf, simien....are all possible.

I still expect him to pull his name out of the draft. If he does stay in and fall to us, he is an easy choice. If he is not available when we draft then I look for us to draft Simien or Fernandez.

You should check out the Jack thread I started:

The draft isn't going to make much of a difference....Houston needs to get a bunch of atheltes on this team if it's going to even have a chance of knocking off the Mavs and Suns of the world.

Swift will help, but we really need a Prince and a couple of players like him. Forget about guys who aren't quick and able to play sick defense.

I expect and think they should go for a wing player (i.e. Garcia). No PF that they will pick at 24 will be able to do much more than Howard/Padgett/Spoon/Bowen but they have NOBODY off the bench who is a capable swingman and a decent shooter.

Your sig makes me wanna bang my head off the wall.

    Draft options?
In such a deep draft, you think we should use our pick on David Lee (AKA the 2nd coming of Luke Walton)?!

Simien I can obviously understand as an option since his play and skills actually make him worthy of a 1st round pick.

    Jay Williams......yikes.

    7 Foot 8 Sun From CHina :D :D :D :D

HONG KONG -- A 7-foot-8 Chinese basketball player hopes to follow in the footsteps of Houston Rockets center Yao Ming.

Sun Mingming, two inches taller than Yao, has attended a training camp in the United States and hopes to be picked in the NBA draft next month, the South China Morning Post reported Sunday.

If the 22-year-old Sun is signed by an NBA team, he would become the tallest player in league history.

Gheorghe Muresan and Manute Bol, at 7-foot-7, are the tallest players in NBA history.

Former NBA player Keith Gatlin, a coach who has worked with Sun, told the newspaper that the Chinese prospect is a 70 percent shooter but needs to work on his agility.

"He really doesn't get much lift and that's something we're looking at to improve," Gatlin said.

Still, Gatlin noted Sun's height means "he pretty much only needs to stand with his arms up in front of the net and he's blocking the basket."

That's kinda what I am leaning toward as well. I mean perhaps someone like Simien can come in and rip it up, but my guess is that the Rockets will look for the best player available at #24 and might be leaning towards the best "swingman" available with the thinking that they are going to address the PF position via MLE or trades for expiring contracts.

My guess is while he is a wall, he will be too slow to be any kind of player in the NBA.
